Hi everybody, [Big Grin]
Been lookin' thru a new supplier catalogue and came upon this vinyl from HEXIS [Dunno]

Justa wunderin' if any of you have ever had the opportunity to use this product and what is your opinion.

[Thanks]

I haven't seen any actual stock vinyl, but all the gradient fade I've been getting lately from K&R Rainbow is printed on Hexis film. Seems OK, but time will tell how it holds up. I had never heard of it before. I hate gambling with a new material not knowing what the longterm life is, but I like their fades. [Dunno]

I used it 4 years ago, I under-bid a huge banner, tried to cut corners and bought Hexis, it fell off the banner after a couple of weeks, I'll never use that stuff again.

Fairly new company marketed heavily on the West Coast for the last couple of years. Compare to: Neschen

Not up to full tier vinyl manufacturer standards liks: Avery, Oracal, 3M, Arlon

A guy I subcontract to started using it but has since stopped.
I found that it didn't want to stick to anything except a mirror-like surface. It also lifted quite regularly and on one job it fell right off after a week.
That was using both wet and dry applications.

Stay as far away from it as you can. Total garbage. [Mad]

I sometimes think that sweeping statements are not very helpful in assessing new products...just saying its garbage, or that you undercut on a job and then used a cheaper product that failed is not very informative.

Did you use a Hexis banner film on a banner, or did you use normal vinyl on a pvc banner and then experience migration of plasticisers causing the product to fail, 2 "no votes" from australia, is it a climate thing [Smile] .

The danger on a BB is that through a couple of bad experiences you can easily steer people away from something that actually might be very good.

Why not instead explain in detail why a product failed.

I was over in the UK where Hexis is quite popular visiting another signmaker, he gave me a Hexis binder 3 years ago, they have alot of interesting stuff and seem very proffessional in Europe, given we have as larger market if not larger than the US (18 countries 445 million). There's lots over here that isn't neccessarily over there [Smile]

I think I am using a product in my Edge that comes from Hexis although I am not 100% on that its for garment printing, and seems to work really well, you have another post here from someone in the UK who has used it problem free for many years.

So by all means say it garbage, but explain in more detail so we can live and learn.

Being that I'm a signmaker and not a chemical technician or scientist, I can't give an exact reason why it fell off, what I do know is I bought 3M vinyl to replace it and it stuck like it should, with no special vinyl, method or process. I may not have a degree in chemical technology or can give you a formula for plasticisors but if the vinyl fall off it does not work, what else is there.
If the dealer was lacking in that knowledge and did not tell me there was either a method of adhering Hexis or that there was a "banner" vinyl, then they failed in giving me that information, what I do know is that I have never, and I mean never had a problem with 3M or Arlon Vinyl. And if Hexis dealers can't inform us signmkers of Hexis vinyl methods or types, than theres another, more explained reason not to use it.
I used a 24oz banner, not pvc, I used the apple green and black Hexis Vinyl and a light grey Arlon vinyl as a drop shadow, it was going to be used on a 100'x 8' banner that stretched across a street, it was double sided,(which threw my bid off) used in a ski resort area in the summer which gets around 60-90 degrees, the Arlon vinyl stuck, the Hexis did not, in fact I had a hard time pulling the app tape off without the vinyl rolling off.
My backround is I am an environmental graphic designer, I am also a 3M trained and certified installer through a vehicle graphics company I was employed with a few years back.I have over 8 years of real experience and have been around a few more, with projects all over the world, with that, I'm not a quickie stickie vinyl guy, but a signmaker who has at least a little experience, and with that a backround that might be able to make a slighty educated comment.
None of us have to give a bio or give any type of experience to know what does or doesnt work, you or anyone can take the comments as you want. In my experience, everytime I try a shortcut, or go outside what I am used to, without askinf an experiences person, 9 times out of 10 I screw it up, using this vinyl against my better judgement was one of those times.
