Jeff Ogden's reply on the E-Bay selling post prompted this question. It's like maybe the man is phsycic or something, but I had the exact same idea months ago.
If you havn't seen it, Jeff was suggesting making hand painted, maybe old looking signs for sale on E-Bay. I'm planning on doing just that. My plan is to take barnwood, and paint a barn-type sign on it. You know, like Mail pouch tobacco, Quaker Oats, etc.
I spent a couple days disassembling a small barn/shed thing. That makes the materials expensive to start with, but the boards look great! I even have a door with rusty hinges, and some moss on it, TONS of character!
My question is this: How big should I make the sign? I'm thinking floor to ceiling, like 7'6" x 15 or 20 feet long, a whole wall sort of thing. A freind disagrees, says I should make smaller signs, like 3' x 4'.
Big or small? The whole idea being to have it sell for 50% higher than I would normally charge. Any comments?

I'm with Rick on this one... 12" x 18" even. People will have enough space in any room, & shipping becomes a small percentage of their total cost, instead of doubling or worse the price of the sign. Make small one, show pics with price to bid on small one today & another price to comission a larger one for those that wish it thay can deal outside Ebay, & you can get 50% to get started.
