Brian sent me a postcard just after we got back from the UK in 2000
it had a picture of breakfast at his place on the front, (oysters n a beer) and on the back a map with a cross marking the spot where he lived
he included a nice note saying... keep in touch
only one problem no bloody address to send return mail too
so Mike, when you see Mr O'Prey, could you please say hello from devo and me and tell him that if we had his address we would have written back hehehe
cheers gail

What a great band that night.."Calico Jack!" I had a blast! Maybe John can memorize the words to waltzing Matilda one of these days huh? See you in OZ someday Gail!

Hi Gail and Devo. Well, what can I say??????? My mind was obviously confused with so many Oyster and Guinness breakfasts. I suppose the sacrifices have to come from somewhere. And there was me thinking you had drunk too much Hunter Valley wine and eaten too many Chocolate Oranges to be able to see. You now have the address to send a postcard of an Aussie breakfast........subterranean grubs and a vat of the amber nectar. Keep in touch down under.
Mike......I see you got the breakfast in. But what about breakfast the other 35 days??? I hope the bar has it on tap or there will be a riot. Uh, oh.......I'm reverting to type!!!! Have you seen the Simpsons Saint Patrick's Day. Brilliant!!!!

It's jillbeans... My opinion of Guinness: 1) It tastes like beer mixed with a can of Coke & a cup of coffee...breakfast, lunch, & dinner in a pint glass! 2) It gives Americans like myself the Bombay Trots! Had the pleasure of drinking a Guinness w/Catherine & John Jordan & Paul Hooper whilst at a pub with the rest of the Cork meet folk. John had a shandy, which id half lemonade & half beer and all yuck. Beer, coffee, & bread are all stronger here. Would have liked to meet you, Brian, but we're off to Quebec. Mike, you're much more trim without the Guinness! love- JILL

Mike - yup it was a great night... I can't recall if it was the guinness or the gentleman in him, that had Brian on his knees looking in the grass for the stone I lost out of my ring! (grin)
I hope you do end up down this way some time soon, the meeting in Cairns would be cool, just come back with jordo you'll love it!
Brian - I did do a search on the net using your name after I got your postcard in 2000, to see if your address was listed anywhere, and guess what came up... 2 articles in Signcraft mag and a rates listing from the Newtownards local council but I couldn't remember if that was the name of the town where you lived... too many Chocolate Oranges (grin) I guess I know now that it was! hehehe
breakkie for me is still a cigie and a coke, but since moving to queensland last year devo has gotten quite partial to real food in the morning... I got him a sign on the fridge that says 'if you want breakfast in bed... sleep in the f****** kitchen' I can't see his connection between me being semi retired and him getting fed more often? got me buggered (grin)
while I'm encouraging folk to come on down to Oz... what's wrong with Mr O'Prey heading south for the winter??? Ozies don't bite you know... well jordo might, but most of us are trained
jillbeans - I used to be a barmaid in the bad old days and I have seen the strangest things go into a glass, by customer request
I guess in Oz where drinking was a contest 364 days of the year and out-right manditory on the other (being anzac day) I grew up within the mindset of real men drink! ladies sip
as you said a shandy is a beer with a touch of lemonade... also a drink most commonly had by the ladies, as they are deemed to be delicate and therefore can't drink beer straight (my dads exact words)
so one day when a 6' 7" biker, 3 pick handles across, fronted the bar and asked in a huge voice for "a Pint of Old" (black beer) it was no suprise, big bloke, big thurst, big glass untill he asked for it with a dash,
now a dash could mean anything... a dash of whiskey, or a dash of rum being the most common
I asked him "dash of what mate?" he said... with a straight face in the same loud voice "a dash of lemonade please"
I started to giggle as did all the others within a 5 person radius
i couldn't see this bloke as 'delicate', but I guessed that's what the others were thinking too, but no one was game enough to say a word about 'the dandy with the shandy'
i must add that we went on to become great friends over time, so much so that he even gave me away when devo and I got married
and even today it still makes me laugh to hear him order a beer
cheers gail

Cherry pie on the way, now, got to go!!! Cheers! See you tomorrow, Mike, we'll call, first. ps. Brian has helped me design some awesome logo for my business, now going to start with some magnetics and business cards. A fresh start! Brian and Arthur cooked some awesome chicken, yum!yum! discussing the beauties of using the brush....even if there were a power outage here, we would still be in business anyway.
