Ever get a blister in a strange place. Let me explain, I have one on my knee. Maybe I should further explain. My wife and I are buying a house, and part of the work we are doing is refinishing the hardwood floors in it. So tuesday night I was at the step after the stain where I had to go along with a Tack Cloth and wipe up the excess dust before I put down the polyurethene. Well 3 bedrooms w/closets, a hallway, living room and dining room later all done on my hands and knees, I have a nice sized blister on my right knee. Needless to say I will be wearing shorts for a couple of days. Maybe I should have invested in those $4.oo knee pads at Home Depot. Posted by Ray Rheaume (Member # 3794) on :
When I was 5 years old, my Grandmother took my sister and I to a public pool for a day. There was no place to hide in the shade and by the time we'd gotten home I had huge sun blisters on my shoulders. Couldn't wear a shirt for a week.

A tack cloth-on-a-stick woulda come in handy. When my dad had the floors in his log cabin done that's essentially what the guy had.. looked like a giant "Swiffer" or trowel with a swivel head, a pad and the cloth. He made pretty quick work of the job. When he applied the urethane he used a long tool with a wide sponge pad at the end. Took him maybe 10 minutes to apply the polyurethane for the *entire* house! My dad and I watched him work.. Dad blurts out "Wull that looks so damn easy I coulda done it!".. I looked at the guy's face and could tell by his reaction what he wanted to say but didn't.. so I said it for him! "Dad, he makes it look so easy cause he's had a lot of experience. You'd only manage to screw it up!"

Mike, yeah I found that out the hard way (should have used the stick). And trust me the polyurathene is not easy. This is the first time (and hopefully the last time) I have refinished floors, and it took me 3 hours to do the whole house. I did learn alot though.

TJ, yeah.. my dad installed his own wood floor then had it finished.. but this past May there were some wicked tornado-generating storms that went through the area, and they forced water into his house. The winds caused the oversized sliding doors to buckle and the water entered through there.. now the floor is all buckled up.. it's bad enough that it needs to be replaced.
