I'm having a problem on both my home computer and office computer, trying to keep IE lit up. They just want to shut it down, and send an error report to Microsoft. I have version 5.5 at the office, so I downloaded 6.0 to fix it hopefully. It then tried to open up 3 or 4 IE windows on top of each other... The problems got worse with shutdowns. I then reverted back to 5.5 and the problems still there. Even the Letterhead BB is giving me messages that I don't have the correct software to operate it properly. I am working with to different operating system, ME and 2000XL at the two locations.

Sounds virus-ish Jack. Gotten any odd financial emails lately? There have been a few Worms & Trojans circulating lately. How ya fixed for anti-virus software? Do you run pop-up stopping software? Do you run any internet security software? Have you gotten the latest OS updates from Microsoft? Many of these things can contribute to symptoms such as these. Figuring out what is the cause is the trick.

Sounds like a TSR problem.
Programs love to do this. During a program
installation it tells windows to load itself
during windows start-up. In the lower right hand
corner of the task bar, you'll see the little
icons. The date, sound, mIRC, real audio, Yahoo
messenger, task manager, Norton anti virus,
scheduling agent, and so, are all TSR`s.
These are programs that windows is running. The
more programs you have running, the more systems
resources your using. When you open a program,
your just adding to the problem.

How do you fix this? Remove the TSR`s. Removing
the TSR`s *is not* removing the program. Your just
telling windows not to load them during start`up.

To remove the TSR`s; go to "start", the "Run", and
type: msconfig
This will bring up the "Systems configuration
utility", the last "Tab" is "start`up". Un`check
the non`vital programs. Do not un`check; Scan
registry, system tray, load power profile. Restart
your computer.
That should solve the problem.

Richard...Are you sure you want to give Jack that info??? "msconfig" doesn't work in Win2000.

Maybe you know another way??? [Roll Eyes] [Roll Eyes]

It's doing it to me, too, the past few days - and I'm on Mac. Comes on just for a flash and it's gone.

To find access to the same controlls in W2000 I would try to run a "find files" search for "system configuration utility" since that is the name of the dialog box that comes up when you "run" msconfig
