I ordered a couple rolls of 3M Electrocut vinyl thinking I was getting the one with the clear plastic backing and I received two boxes of FDC vinyl that say Scotchcal Electrocut on the label with a paper liner. According to my supplier they are both he same thing now (except they aren't! I wanted the clear backing!!).

Anyone else run into this? Never a dull moment!

Amy,

What does it say on the back of that paper liner???

And if you want a 3M HP vinyl with a clear liner order the Gerber 225 series vinyl.

I doubt that they are the same.
I've only gotten FDC a couple of times when my regular supplier was out of the color I needed in a hurry.
Each one I got would not line up with the sprockets in my Gerber. The hole punches were offset just enough to cause the vinyl to bunch up in my machine. I was able to use it in my friction fed machine, but was not happy that I couldn't print on it with the Gerber.

I also had the Chrome from FDC and when I cut it, it kept curling up the opposite way from the roll, and was a @(#*$& to weed!

FDC is a "converter" of vinyl, using 3M face stock.

Some distributors will call this 3M vinyl, others will tell you "it's the same thing" others will more correctly tell you that it has the same face stock, may have a different adhesive and almost always has a different liner.

It is 3M apparently a new Electrocut 7175.

It came in an FDC box with and FDC label that says Scotchcal Electrocut Film. The roll has FDC all over it but has the same label inside of it "Scotchcal Electrocut Film 7175". The backer paper says 3M Scotchcal Electrocut.

Guess they have something going.

I worded this wrong before. The supplier did not try to pass it off as 3M but rather explained that the two had some type of deal. They didn't just send it to me then try to pass it for something it wasn't.

Apparently 7725 is the one with a clear liner. I thought all Electrocut had a clear liner!

3M/Gerber have a different smell than other vinyls, I think Gregory's house vinyl is 3M because of that.
