Wow, another perfect day on the water in Nanaimo today. The International 'Bathtub' races were here today, the Indy was racing in Vancouver (just 30 miles across the water) and a huge Airshow in Comox 50 miles north. The weather was spectacular for all three events. ....September will also be terrific here (no snow in September) We need to know who intends to come to our meet, as out deadline for several things ends soon. Mike Meyers just emailed me a picture of the panel he is preparing.....WOW is all I can say. I have asked him to post it here too for all of you to see. Dan Sawatsky, as busy as he is will be dropping in for a short time. John Jordan of Australia has been working feverishly to prepare his gilding sample.....wait until you see his layout.....he is a master!!!!!! Enjoy this fabulous summer, hope to see you all soon. Contact me soon. Sue

Alicia, So glad things are back on track. We've been thinking about you. Adrienne, check your email. John Jordan, (globe trotter) has left Australia....and is on his way here in a very round about route. Dan Sawatzky is preparing his demonstration. The gold class is now FULL but we have lots of room for you & lots more for you to learn. There is still time to book into this meet, and we are counting on you Letterheads to support us...You cannot buy this type of knowledge. Lots of play-time, lots of knowledge, sign up now. BEGINNERS are just as welcome as the long time professionals. We hope to inspire you to greater things in life... Step out of the box.... See you there!

Hey, I was gonna make a motel resurvation, but I don't know the area. I will be driving, but I don't wanna end up booking a room 40 miles from you. Any suggestions? Can you use regular American dollars up there?
Posted by AdrienneMorgan (Member # 1046) on :
Alicia, I got the list from Susan tonight, email me and I'll forward it.
If you want to we can be roomies again...Howard Johnsons is about 50 bucks a night (US)
Yes, you can use US dollars in BC, but some places will give you a poor exchange rate. Best to use your ATM or credit card whilst in Canada...you will get the correct exchange rate that way.
I do that for most things I purchase when in Canada, only take out $20 or so for pocket change.
The hotels Susan recommends are 4-6 blocks from the meet.

Tim, Welcome! There are several things to consider bringing to your first meet. These items are sometimes hard to find, but are free to use when you find them...what are they?? A warm smile, a friendly handshake, a positive attitude, and an enquiring mind. Meets like this are only as good as you make them. We encourage you to dive right in and get involved with each seminar, drink up the talent and inspiration that is all around you. The talent is here, the willingness to share the knowledge is here, you just have to ask the questions and the answers will come. The tools you choose to bring are up to you. Some bring their complete sign kits, or just their favorite brushes, or just a notebook, or just a camera. We encourage all hands-on stuff...ie hand painting, vinyl tips, airbrushing, pinstriping. You are here to learn, so bring whatever you feel comfortable with. Have a safe place to keep them when they are not in use. Sign crafters are mostly honest but things still find legs and go missing. You can bring a portfolio of photos, so we can see the kind of work you do. Also some Letterheads design and prepare an actual panel (sign) to either bring to the meet already complete, or as a project to complete while they are here. This is not a necessity but adds a lot of interest and ideas to the meet. (See past meets to view some panels) The gold is 99 % ready. I am waiting for one more call back before the gold list is final, we have shopped around to several places and found the best pricing for everyone. We need one more day.
