Ok... so, I have a job that I have never had before. I need to see if anyone here would like to give me an estimate on this job.

3D Cartoon Fish
SignFoam
6" depth
Approx. 48"x48"
Should be hand-carved or somehow shaped to look "cartoony"
You paint it by the way.
Please also provide your estimated timeline...

Here's an unapproved version of the fish
 -

This is still in the sales phase so don't do any hard work just yet. I am looking to you folks for help because my local guy is not only too expensive but he uses 2lb, foam which doesn't have a smooth enough surface.

Please email me your info (dave@thatsignguy.net) or call me (916) 548-7969

or post your estimate here if you are comfortable with that.

grassy ass!

sooooooo on one of your post the question was...
"is is ok to charge too much?"
NOW... it is "can anyone give me an estimate?"

There seems to be a pattern emerging here!!
The name of your business is WHAT?

...do you get fries, er, chips with that?

Now I'm curious; you say your local guy is too expensive, what did he quote you using 2 lb. foam? I'm assuming that's insulation foam, eh?

is the fish 2 sided or one? i guess that may be obvious to you guys but i'm new at this 3d stuff and well...frankly....blonde french and polish.
but...sounds like it could be fun...for the right price. [Wink]

P-King,

I don't think he's wanting someone to estimate this job for him to know what to charge. The way I read it, he is looking for someone to carve it for him and wants an estimate. Is there something wrong with that?

Ok... sorry for being sooo silent, I've been waiting for feedback from the customer... looks like we may be going with a cut out PVC (sintra, celtec) fish instead with a few layers...

to answer a few questions...

Mike Pulskamp - Where in sacto are you? I'd love to come by and see your stuff. I'll call you soon.

Pking - What are you getting at?

Pierre & Robert - Those are great prices and in the future you will definately be considered for my 3D work!

Cam - My local guy quoted $3000 and 6 weeks and he had an attitude to boot. I honestly left with the feeling that he was a Dickwad.

Karyn - the fish is 1-sided (cut in half and flush mounted) not 360 degrees

John Arnott - Thats an amazing price! how can you do it so cheap and so fast!? just a letterheads deal or what? If they decide to go with 3D foam over my PVC Idea I beleive you'd have a great shot.

I think that's everyone... thanks for everything! I'll keep ya'll updated and post pics of the final product.

Sorry It took me this long to get back to you. I am about four blocks from you! I don't have all that much to show off as I am as green as grass at this, But I would love to do more foam carving! I am doing a peice with faux stone Celtic Knotwork and domed lettering over a painted background. 40x48x4.
Give me a call
We can do lunch sometime!
