hey heads, quick rant here...
pretty much learning to live with spam & not get too irritated, but I have been plagued now by this one source of spam I can't even read that is being sent from http://www.conventioncollective.com
I get them once a week for 3 months now. I thought I detected a date sometime in June, so I figured whateven their damn convention was they were writing me about it would end in june & the beatings would stop. Now I think it must be some frickkin' newsletter & it is driving me up the wall. The only contact number I could find on the website in hopes of teaching them a few new english words is a fax. I gave new meaning to the concept of colorful faxes, but I can't seem to get that through any better then my fukque-off emails. does anyone else get this stuff? can anyone read it? I thought of forwarding the email to Pierre in Quebec, or maybe Steven (Raven) but didn't want to do that without a prior warning as to why I am doing that. I just wonder if there is an invitation to get off their list even though I rarely trust that approach anyway. I don't know why, but this particular spam nuisence has me more suicidal then most. Maybe my subconscience thinks all that unreconizable jumble of letters is really someone making fun of me [Eek!]

Well, anyway, my therapy isn't untill tomorrow so thought I'd reach out to the bi-lingual letterheads for any clues.

If you have the gooble toolbar loaded, you can simply right click on any web page and 'translate'. the translation may leave somewhat to be desired but you will get the gist of the content. The latest google toolbar also comes with a built in pop-up killer..

To find, go to google & search 'google toolbar'

Hi Doug,
I don't think it's spam! You're just the vicitm of an bad IP adress I think.
Actually "convention collective" has the meaning of "collective [wage] agreement".
I would try to write to them and ask them to remove you from their mailing list.

I tried by hitting the "reply" from within IE6 but that mailbox is probably filled with other colorful replies, because all 4 or 5 times I replied, they bounced back to me.

Strongly advise subscribing to the alt.spam newsgroup.

In skimming the replies to the original post, I thought I saw the word "reply" applied several times to spammers. Never reply to a spammer. That only confirms you and your addie as a target for more spam, as Si Allen and others have warned. Plus, spammers normally forge their return addies. So, you're dealing with some fundamentally-dishonest sub-species to begin with, and force will work guicker than reason.

Bruce is right on the money...Never reply to the sender as they will target your E-Mail Address.

Block sender in your incoming and Deleted areas.
Let the message bounce back at them as a no HIT!

You can get into a mailing mess by forwarding Garbage to their site.
Or how do you say it in French!(Comment ecrit-on ce mot en francais?) (Fukk Off!)

I've been getting spam in Russian lately. No idea why they think I can read it, but it's sure bizarre looking and annoying. When I try and block
the senders address, they just generate a new bogus address - so blocking is ineffective.
I've copied and pasted some of the russian text into one of my mail handling rules (in Outlook Express) in hopes that will automatically send it to my delete bin.

Another recent spam I've received at least twice is addressed to Jimmy Chatham but at my old difsupply email address. I suspect someone tried harvesting names off here and got their database all messed up.

Letterville has always had a huge problem with spam. We own 4 domains, and it seems we get 4 times the spam. I'm talking close to 500 incidents a day!

Over the past couple days, I have been trying out a program from www.mailshell.com called SpamCatcher. So far it has been nothing short of fantastic! It appears to be catching 99% of the spam, and so far none of our real mail has been affected.

The price isn't bad either. I believe it is about $20 bucks a year. In a nutshell, I am impressed! It's going to save us a pile of time each day, and that is always a good thing.
