I agree Ray...I did a Double sided sign for a local bar...On one side it said "Sorry We are OPEN" On the other side it said.."CLOSED, Where the HELL were you when we were open?"
He and all his regulars LOVE IT! I do too!

I like it Ray! I remember seeing one in Greenvill, Ms., I believe, on an old sign shop that read, "Open most days 8-5, if the fish aren't biting!

Raymond, funny thing that you should mention this now. In my sketch book is a drawing for a sign with similar info.
I was going to make a separate posting, but since you brought this one up, I'll do it here. I was thinking of a sign that was intended to be humorous, it read: "If we're not here, it's because WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE! then go on to describe how I'm out doing windows or signs for someone else, and if they'll call...
Then I let my mind go into "dream mode" or "Dan zone" or whatever it should be called, and instantly I had an idea I like ALOT better. Now the sign is a cut-out of a guy holding a sign, his cartoon head and big eyes are sticking up from behind the sign, looking at the reader, his hands grasping the corners, fingers wrapped around the front. The copy starts with: "looking for us?" Then the rest of the info.
I think the same thing happened while making a rough pencil sketch for the sign I just finished. The customer was acting REALLY cheap. Upon our initial conversation, I suggested a reverse panel to break up a part of the sign, and he immediatly said "is that going to cost more?". The man is opening a spy-supply store, where they sell moitoring equipment to stores and stuff. He will also use the store as an office for his investigations office. None of the info he gave me said "P.I." on it, as far as I knew, that abbreviation was way out of fashion.
But while I was making the pecil sketch, I took about 5 minutes and drew a Dick tracey sort of silhouette, with a rough edge panel behind it and his name small, with "P.I." bigger below it.
I thought there's no way it'll go, 'cuz I'm going to charge more. However, they went ape over it. I got to do a sign I thought was cooler looking, and charged more.
Any way, afterwards I was wondering: did I "theme" that sign? Maybe I should call it the "theme zone."

My answer machine informs callers: I'm either out a working or I'm out fishin', if I'm a workin' I'll call you back soon but if the fish are biting,,, DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH. Most new callers comment "I love your message" and then leave me a number to return, and regular customers just say something like "don't catch 'em all" or "filet 'em and bring me a mess".
