I made a 4x4 sign for the "Tree Farm" organization last year out of Alumacorr. I put the plastic channel on it too.
They just ordered 10 more of signs and I'm not so sure I want to use any more of the Alumacorr. The aluminum skin on the scrap piece here in the shop peels off too easily from the corrugated plastic core. Very easily.
Anyone use Alumacorr? Had any delamination problems? Thanks

What's the price difference between alumacore & dibond? Probably not worth the lost sleep..

Never used Alumacor. My suppliers all carry Alumalite & Dibond. I've only had one problem with Alumalite, actually it was Econolite, the one side good Alumalite.
They had a few batches go bad. It took them awhile to figure out what the problem was. Their aluminum supplier changed something that affected the bond between the plastic and the aluminum. It has since been corrected and the aluminum supplier is paying for all the replacements plus vinyl or paint costs plus uninstall and reinstall plus labor to remake the sign. Pretty good warrantee in my book. I've never had any aluminum come off the plastic on the Alumalite.
I know some Dibond fans are going to chime in and say Dibond is the only way to go. But I've also seen some problems with Dibond and I still don't like the two sides being a different color. Under certain circumstances, Dibond is my first choice. In others Alumalite gets the nod.

I have a 8x12 double faced sign that has been up about 6 years. No delaminations,,,,but of the 6 sheets, which are dark green Alumicore, one of them is flat, while the other 5 are glossy. No one has complained yet, but I'm keeping an eye on it. Funny how 1 sheet is different from the rest. It must of been the last one on the pallet, and the other five must be from a different batch. I don't know of any other delaminations. I have done older signs, but the businesses are gone. (That would make a good post....how many businesses go under, and the signage changes that go with it. I know of one restuarant that I have lettered the same window 5 different times for different people.)
Doesn't Alumicore still come with a warranty against delams? I know the paint has a 10 year thing on it...I may make a claim on the sign mentioned in the beginning of this post.I hope you get some more posts...this is a good on-going topic........

If you're not 100% confident in something, how can you use it? Not a good feeling when you have doubts to start with..

I've only bought one sheet of this stuff so far. Used half of it for the 4x4 sign and cut an ellipse out of the other half for backing an HDU sign for a wall mount. Yes it comes with a warranty but after tampering with this leftover piece, it's got me worried. No, I don't want to do anything else with it until I have researched a little. Like Mike says, I ain't 100% confident.
They want 10 more of the signs and possibly more after that. I don't know how they're mounting them and don't want any failures. Maybe a sheet of .080 aluminum would be better for this job. Thanks
