Hey Y'all,

So, I decked my truck out with graphics last month (SignCONCEPTS) and the response has been good however, I often have wondered with a name like SignCONCEPTS, if people know I do other stuff besides signs.......

So, I am doing this chicks lexan sign and she comments on how nice my truck looks and then she says, "WHO DID IT?"

WHAT?

I know the name of my business is NOT - HOT CAR GRAPHICS TODAY but, don't people know that it's the same thing, only the substrate has changed?

So, I have an idea. This city is strict with signs going up except one kind and that is GARAGE SALE SIGNS. They go up every Friday at NOON and they get taken down on Sunday at NOON. The streets are thick with GARAGE SALERS here. Every side street turn off has 3-5 signs pointing you to THEIR SALE.

I have made a dozen DOUBLE SIDED signs for just the weekend window.

They say my no., my company name and 1 SERVICE I DO (that I want the people to know I do) per side of the double sided cheapo Coroplast mounted on step stakes.

So, they range from "VEHICLE GRAPHICS", "TRUCK GRAPHICS", "TRAILER GRAPHICS", "CUSTOM BANNERS", "AWNINGS LETTERED" and "SIGNS THAT YOU READ!"

If I were to put these up during the week, the city would confiscate them as they do their landscaping and such but, turn a blind eye for some weekend G.Sale profitability.

People have to slow down to turn to where the sale is and THEY SURE ARE READING WHERE THE SALES ARE until they get to mine....TRAILER GRAPHICS - 912-1899 - SignCONCEPTS!

I'm trying it out this weekend.
Whatcha think???????

First, I think you are WAY too excited about doing this. [Smile]

I would think it would depend on where you place the signs. If it's a residential neighborhood with just residential traffic & garage salers, I wouldn't expect as much as I would if it were a heavily traveled main street type area. Location, Location, Location.

i do this about ever 6 weeks or so. Been doing it since march. I do an OPEN HOUSE type deal.

About a dozon around some busy intersections and one big ol' 4x8 well lettered coro sheet out front. It brings in about 4- 6 orders when time i do it.

But, some times i get skunked too. I don't know the patterns yet, but next year I will.

Another approach might be to provide the yard sale signs free to whomever wants one and build into the design your name and messages.

You get

• exposure
• personal contact with new people .... some of whom may want something you do
• no time spent running around putting them up

Yeh, Chris well, I get OPTOMISTIC (lets call it that) when I decide a different approach to selling my product (or to merely make aware of MORE of my services).
Airdrie is a BEDROOM community that commutes to some heavy duty businesses everyday 10 minutes down the road to Calgary. YAHOOOOOOOO!!

Sorry, it's STAMPEDE WEEK here and all.
Anyway, I put the sign on Main St. and the city crew picks it up. I put it on the corner of a busy street here and the corner of the ersidential that it intersects and I expect people to see it (here in population 20,000 only) after all.......they have to leave their residential area to do anything.......afterall.
You hurt my young feelings by shooting me down like that. Well, you really didn't and I will let you know when I get a NATION WIDE ACCOUNT from this harmless appearing scheme. It's soooooo lame, it might just work. If it doesn't then I got rid of 2 hours of work and some much needed scrap coroplast and scrap vinyl.

Cheers!

Honey, I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings & I'm sorry if it came across that way. I think this can work if you think about where you put them. If it's a conservative town, putting them in front of the XXX bookstore or strip club that everyone is trying to get rid of might be a bad idea. [Smile] From your second post, it seems you're planning on putting them somewhere where they get a lot of exposure from people other than cheap yard-salers, good.
And did you notice the smily face? I was joking that maybe you were a little too excited or need to re-think your caffeine intake. [Smile]

As I typed this, I started to think about the end of our driveway. I live on a heavily traveled road (it's the shortcut now that they're working on the main highway). Maybe I should try this with just 1 sign at end of driveway , with cute wording ("Is your company truck naked? For Lettering call....") & just change them every few days.

"Is your trucked naked?" Hahahahahaha! We use the same expression around our shop...

Chris, the rotating message thing sounds like a great idea. Maybe you could take it another step to a "Burma Shave" type thing...

For truck lettering...

that offers a whole lot more...

Just one call will do it...

Chris @ 349-0754!

or....

If your truck is naked...

or just plain boring...

Do something about it...

or leave your customers snoring!

Haaaaaa! I gotta go!

Have a great one!

Another approach that might pay big dividends would be to donate the occasional "Special Event" banner to local Service Clubs (Lions, Optimists,Kinsmen, etc.) The front side could have the message rpomoting THEIR event, but the backside could very well be promoting YOUR business, and the things that you want to focus on. Typically, a lot of these Service Clubs have members who also own and operate local businesses, and they are also often the "movers and shakers" in your local community. They're almost always running some event as a fund-raiser, and such a gesture would keep YOU first and foremost in their minds. I'm not suggesting that you donate each and every banner....be selective, and get them to pay for most of them. The fact that you'll supply the occasional "freebee" will be enough to keep them coming back.
