I'm thinking about buying VMPro since getting a new computer built last week. SignLab (under Vinyl Express Platinum) doesn't like XP Pro apparently. I have a feeling I'm not going to get a lot of help from tech on the problem- Idownloded the HDD32 but it's still not right.
I've been reading some of the past posts on VMPro and for the most part it seems everyone who has it likes it. But, not not much has posted since last year.
Anyone have more recent thoughts on the software?

Linda - I run Signlab, and was a kicking and screaming convert from Casmate. I have learned to really like it. I would like to encourage you to at least give the Signlab techies a try. Why spend more money. They are helpful and prompt whenever I need them, and I'm always so surprised when they know what I'm talking about.... We think we are alone in our problems, and we rarely are.

Myra- Thanks for encouragement. My version of SignLab was marketed under Vinyl Express. VE, I think, no longer sells this version w/ their plotter. I love they one I've been using- between it and Corel 10, it seems I have best of both.
With the "undo" function not working in SL... you can imagine the frustration.... it's pretty much worthless. I spend today doing a fairly simple layout which I imported from Corel. After making a few changes and saving, I realized I needed to undo a few steps since the last save... can't do it.
Posted the question earlier today about others w/ the same problem and Bill had some advice but frankly, I don't mess around w/ the system settings. I've only had this baby 3 days and I don't want to screw it up.
Here's the weird thing- I have XP Home version on my laptop- undo works pefectly. Why shouldn't it work flawlessly under XP Pro?
It doesn't make sense that they tell me "it won't work- tell your customer to buy LXi"!

Linda, try emailing Cadlink with an explanation of your problem. It's worth a try. They have always been extremely helpful to me and usually reply to my email by phone.

It could be a simple setting on your options that is keeping your undo from working, also if you save something, then the undo will not work till you do something else to the file. Bill, PS I have never called signlab that they did not answer my questions promptly and effectively.

Bill- When I installed SL on the new CPU I just left the "undos" at the default. When I opened a layout to work on and had to hit undo and nothing happened, I thought, hmmm! that's odd. Went to options to adjust the undos but it doesn't matter what I set it at- it's still disabled. The button itself appears to be functional but it's not.
I know that each save resets it so that's not the problem.
I think Bill #1 could be right about the RAM thing. My laptop is 512 RAM and everything is fine. You'd think someone could make a patch for this problem.

Hi Linda, and Bill--
Usually on those rare occasions that I have had to call there has been no problem. This time, though, the first thing out of the box was the business about being out of warranty. The options were $50 for phone support, (per call, or, per problem I never found out) upgrade to e6 for x number of $, or find it myself in their Q and A section. Well, gee, thanks.
I looked and looked there, couldn't find what I needed to know, too cheap to spend the $50, so I took the expensive route just to get back up and running. Not the smartest thing I've ever done, but oh well.
A couple of months or so later, I went back into Signlab's site, and rummaged some more. At one point I found a place where I could type in a search word on issues. Typed in "undo" and bang, there it was.
This business of RAM in excess of 512 MB had come up before, and the fix was the resetting of the minimum amount of virtual memory down to 100. Nothing else needed---except maybe to reboot.
The annoying thing was the $ angle---and the fact that the problem didn't turn up until after I had downloaded whatever that patch was from Cadlink. In other words---You gave me the damn problem, now you want to charge me to fix it? The whole thing still leaves a bad taste, even though both versions of Signlab---5 and e6---seem to be real good.
The one thing I wont do any time soon is go to their site again to see if there are any patches or updates. If it ain't broke, leave it alone.
This is the edited part. I just went back to Signlab's website, then to tech support knowledge finder, typed in "undo" and up came tech note # 1033. It says pretty much the same thing mentioned earlier---RAM over 512 affects badly on all versions of Signlab, and regardless of operating system. There is no patch, as such. The "workaround" is what was mentioned earlier; reduce the lower number in virtual memory to 100 and re-boot.
The tech note further stated that on those computers equipped with 2Gb of RAM, some of that RAM has to be taken out. What the program does is add up the RAM and the amount of virtual memory---if this reaches or exceeds 2GB then SL misreads it and treats it as a negative number. At this point, the program has a conniption fit and loses the "undo" function.
Hope this helps.

So I bought it never been sorry hay...the fonts alone are worth the purchase price support is limited to...online after x number of days. but they always respond its the best bargain out there in my book. another thing I like....it hardly ever crashes..

Bill- Thanks so much for the time you've taken to help me out here . I will give it a try when I get to the office this morning. May have to email you with a couple questions . I appreciate you're advice.
Michael- did you ever get the VMPro support group up and running? I had the VMPro demo but can't find it now- sent for a new one. Thought the demo was sweet.
