At the Museum of Neon Art in Los Angeles there is an exhibition called "L.A. Sign Structures". They are black and white photographs by Mark Swope that depict historic rooftop signs in Los Angeles. Museum of Neon Art, 501 W. Olympic Blvd., Suite 101, Los Angeles. (213) 489-9918.

Dawn, you ever notice how amazing the transformation is when an old neon and metal sign gets refurbished? If a regular painted sign or backlit sign got redone, it would go from a 1 or 2 to a 7 or 8, or however good it originaly looked. But a neon and metal sign goes from a minus 2 to a plus 15. I don't have any special preference for them, but before they're redone, they look so blah it's hard to think they could have ever amounted to anything. Gets me every single time. Just my observation.
