This is very off topic but I had to share it with someone. Two hours ago we had to put one of my daughter jumping horses down because he had a very serious accident. He ran through a woven wire fence with a strand of barbed wire on the top. Go figure.
My daughter is in Kansas seeing he husband before he goes to Iraq. The vet got there and said they was no way of saving the leg. I hated calling her in Kansas to tell her-especially since she is 7 months PG and then has to drive back home.
Sometimes I hate owning animals. This horse was a big old thoroughbred that was the sweetest thing and a really good jumper. She just let someone take him for 3 days to see if they wanted to lease him for the summer-while she is PG. They did.

Just know that you did what you could, You and your daughter cared for that horse, It was lucky to have good people. My heart goes out to both of you. Living with animals teaches us how to be better people. Some of those lessens hurt.

With animals, you simply have to be practical. A neighbour went through a similar tragedy not long ago- they'd just bought a new carriage horse with a bit more zing and style than the older one they had. They had a buyer for the older one, and early the next day the new one kicked the other and completely broke its front leg- only hours before it was to be collected. We've had to put a few of our own down over the years- the gun is a lot cheaper than the vet, and quicker too when the situation is hopeless. I always apologise to them first- it's hard when they've been faithful friends, but it's a responsibility one has to accept in the circumstances. It's never easy. Keeping the news from your daughter is best too,shady though it may seem. Best wishes.

I'm totally speechless. I ADORE all my animals and it would break my heart into a million pieces to lose even one. So sorry for everyone's loss.
