Well after the umteenth time of someone calling asking for "The CHEAPEST" sign they could possibly get, I said to one guy. "You want the cheapest, get a paper and pencil!" It felt soooo good I was expecting a dial tone but ended up getting the job from the guy for a couple of simple 18 x 24's.
Of course, all of you know what kind of business this guy is in. These people typically make more $ on each sale than we make in a month and want to pay the least to look the best Hmmmmm.... This isn't a test.

Maybe I'm getting to be an old crotchety Geezer, like Bob Burns, but I just don't feel like messing with 'cheepos'!!!! If they feel insulted, too bad! I'm not wasting any time on them, if they laugh, then, I will talk and educate them on what is needed and a reasonable price.

There's always some customers we simply can't please. Last week I did up a design for a local business. The actual fabrication work was quite extensive and I was not able to take on the job... and so I referred them to a local signshop. The local signshop was delighted.
The business owner called me back with endless changes to the design that didn't take into accound the recommendations I had given him. (He wanted to write a story on a monument sign that really only needed three words) And he wanted to butcher a simple design to make it complex & busy. Yesterday he called me once more and wanted me to draw up his nuumerous changes before the sign went to the other shop for fabrication. I explained politely and at length why I disagreed with him on the suggested changes.
He in turn told me I knew nothing about his business and therefore he totally disregarded my design suggestions. But he still wanted me to do up the design presentation.
I suggested to him that the shop I had referred him to could take care of the design from here on in... and even volunteered to drop off ALL my work up to that point at the other shop to make it easy for him.
My tongue is still bleeding a little from me biting it as I spoke to him... But at least he isn't my problem any more.

I went to an office supply store and bought an acrylic literature display rack. The one that I got will hold several different types and sizes of literature. I then went to walmart and bought a drawing pad, crayons, colored pencils, and water paints to put in it. I labeled it on the front "CHEAP SIGN KIT" and it sits on my desk. I have gotten tons of comments on it. I still get an occasional cheapskate, but nothing will stop them all.
