A few months back there was a discussion on what kind of sign kit to get. After almost thirty years of service I'm going to semi-retire my old aluminum box. As you can see the hinges are shot, the clasps that hold it together are broken, I'm afraid it's gonna spill it's contents one day and well...it's a "little" nasty [Smile]
I've seen these boxes at Joey Hutson's meet, Joey has a couple of killer ones ( what would you expect ) Any way I picked one up and tricked it out a little with some striping, lettering and some spun leaf initials. The top is deep enough to hold 55 4oz bottles to keep all my paint, One Shot , urethane, reducers , catalysts, oil, bourbon whatever in. It's got two drawers that I've fitted with some brush boxes that I got out of an anituqe jewelry case. The way the old box was setup, I was constantly opening and closing the top fold outs to get at things. This setup will elimiate all that. I'm gonna leave a lot of the stuff I no longer use on a routine basis in the old box.

The best part of this thing is they are available at Sears for $35 [Smile]

Very nice kit George. If I may make a suggestion, a piece of 1/2 inch medium closed cell foam saturated with oil sandwiching your brushes would keep them in shape and stop them from moving.

Beautiful job George. I have one of those and didn't have to use it. I came home with the Lazer Lines box from Joey's! Love the way you tricked it out. Guess we'll get to see it up close and personal at The Sand Castle Panel Jam.

Wouldn't it be fun to have a sign kit panel jam in the future? Everyone could bring a Sears box and trick it out at the meet.

George, nice kit, what does it weigh? Dimensions? Steel or Aluminum? Solar powered??

I got a new one 2 years ago at Home Depot up here. It weighs a TON... well 25 pounds loaded, and there's not more than 5 lbs. of stuff in it. No paints, thinners, just brushes and related hand lettering dodads.

It's a real arm stretcher, have to keep switching hands to keep knuckles from dragging.

I'd go down to Seattle to get a lighter kit.

Thanks, John / Signirder

Congrats Perky! I had to peek! I'm always fascinatedwith signkits!

Kathy I think that is a wonderful idea! I may have to steal it hahaha!

It would be a great theme for a first time meet thrower! Think of the kewl stuff you could learn!

John, the box is steel, the dimensions are 18x9x12. It's a little smaller than my old kit, but I'm not going to be hauling as much junk in it. Weight wise, unloaded the box is pretty light. I've got almost all those little 4 oz bottles filled with paint so now it's kinda heavy, I'd guess 35-40 pounds. The old box had 8 0z bottles and it was more like 60-70 lbs.....unhhhhh

Great work George! Lettering people are accustomed to seeing great work, but show it to Sears, bet they'd flip. Jim D.
