Dear Friends I've got a lot of work to do in an (unfortunately) short period of time. I am writing a remembrance about the life and times of Rick Glawson for Sign Business, and hope to receive an e-mail from those who knew and loved Rick. Send anything that you're moved to send: antecdotes, quotes or stories--anything you'd be willing to see in print. I'll probably take kind of an interview approach; editing your comments so that they'll work well together. I'm new to the Bullboard,(though not to letterheads) and erroneously thought I'd logged on with this request a few weeks ago. Barb Shortreed got me properly indoctrinated, and I'm here now. I look forward to getting properly acquainted; I think the reality of an ongoing meeting in the virtual world is fantastic--wish I'd started doing this sooner. For now I'll log off until I've got something worthwhile to contribute, and extend the invitation again to help me properly talk about Rick.
Thank You, Mark Oatis

I hope you come back on a regular basis...fill us in once in a while on the latest in the world of "If you can dream it, you can make it".
A lot of people here would enjoy seeing first had what it is you guys do. I know I did!
Truly a shame that Rick Glawson is no longer with us...we'll be looking forward to anything written about him.

Mark, it's good to see you here. I've never seen you with nothing worthwhile to contribute. Send Rose in here occassionally also. Ciao

I like that statement, "I'm new to the Bullboard (although not to Letterheads)"...he just happens to be one of the guys that started the whole thing. When you stand Mark Oatis and Noel Weber together you have the cream of the crop - probably the single most influental men in the Letterhead movement. Our founding fathers.
Mark is one of my "one hand heroes" - one of those very special people that you count on one hand. It is indeed a high honor to know you, sir.
Mark, you have a great task in trying to convey Rick's life in one article. My best wishes for you.

Mark,
Just remember, the 'virtual world' is just like the real world - some kooks and some not. Topics here often stray away from sign-related issues and allow some folks to vent in a variety of ways. Unfortunately, the keyboard makes some folks very brave - and downright mean from time to time. (again, just like the real world)
But for the most part, it is an incredibly useful resource that allows the sign trade to progress in more immediate and modern ways. It gives us access to vendors - it gives the trade a 'bully-pulpit' if there are issues with products introduced in the market. It helps those wanting to avoid making a mistake the chance to question others with experience. Hey - it's a virtual Letterhead meet like Steve clearly states!
In no small part, your contribution to the sign trade help nurture this BB by your foresight so many years ago in helping 'found' the Letterheads with the other six. Steve and Barb's dedication to this site is to be commended - and they are extremely mindful of steering this ship with great diplomacy and fairness - as would any true Letterhead. I always felt the 'Letterhead creed' so eloquently spoken by yourself and others really could be boiled down into one sentence: "Play nice when you're in the sandbox together"
Welcome to the sandbox - use it for it's many benefits - but every now and then the neighborhood cat leaves a surprise in here.
Good luck with the article on Rick. You have a monumental task - but a flair for writing the proper text. You'll do better than fine.

Hi Mark,
I'll look forward to seeing your future posts. Like everyone else, I think your work is incredible. I just wanted to say thanks for everything you've done to elevate the craft. I shudder to think what my work would look like if it weren't for the spirit of sharing that you helped create. I imagine I'm "speaking" for a lot of people.

Hi Mark I have known of your work for years. my name is Danny Busselle and new to this web site also but not to Conclaves. are you looking for what Rick meant to me? If so an educator of Reversed glue chip glass. I spent 18+ years bumping around the Studios and then found "Big Daddy Fine Gold" Im was lucky in that I had Tricks and methods of doing things to be able to Share it with Him. He (Rick) Seemed tireless but I really new that like my self he would stop and answer the phone then use the Nights to chatch up with Bizz. What a Talent What he left was knowledge to be passed on to another Sharing and caring about the "CRAFT" that Feed you and all of us Love.

You're right Rosemary, this IS cool!! As Raymond said, I like that statement, "I'm new to the Bullboard (although not to Letterheads)" ...
Mark, welcome to Letterville!! It's an honor and a pleasure to have one of the origianl 7 join us here!! I'm looking forward to anything you care to contribute but meanwhile, thanks for being part of getting this thing called Letterheads started! It's sure meant a lot to me because this is one of the few groups I've really felt at home with and Letterville is the only place I've ever lived that I gladly paid the taxes
