I am finishing wood with 100% tounge oil. It's been 6 days and my finger still comes off wet. What do I mix it with? Mineral Spirits? And in what ratio? Thanks for any help.

I don't know how you are applying it, but Tung oil, which comes from Tung oil trees, is supposed to soak into the wood, much like linseed oil. Brush it on, let it soak in for awile, then wipe off any excess. On hard woods you may want to thin it with MS or preferably turpentine, up to 50 %, or enough so that it can penetrate the wood fibers more readily. Try a little first...dont overthin. If it just lays there on the surface, then it's not soaking in.

That's the basic process. I'm sure there are lotsa folks out there with recipes for wood finishing that get more involved, and may be better for what you are doing. If there is any gilding involved with whatever you're doing, then don't be oiling the wood unless you have gilded first.

I don't know how much help I can be, because I have more questions right now than answers. What kind of wood? What was the last grit of sandpaper used? Why tounge oil?
