I'm tryin' to think of stuff from the '80's. Chrissy hines and the pretenders? (brrrRowrrrnn, in the middle of the road yeah!) Reagan? yugos? VW rabbits? and Gerber 4-b? Still runnin',like a tank, but I seriosly should add an update. Bye, Jim.

Chalk from pre-history. Brushes from the '40s and '50's Cotten reel snap-line from the '60s Bose 901s (pre-ported) from the early '80s SuperSprint only just died.
(Re. your other post; Not as far as I know, but we are both very sweet tempered! and there was this brown-eyed girl)

This morning; noticed my palettes are not in their first flush of youth either.
Anyone else have this sort of paint build-up, gets a bit heavy, doesn't it?

Hey I thought I was the only one who used outdated stuff. My PNC 1100 is an absolute workhorse and I don't know what I'll do when it decides it's had enough. I've been running it for 12 years now and never had to have it fixed yet. The only problem I ran into with it was Camm Cut which requires you to phone in to get an install # every time you have to reinstall it. The Roland Canada support closed down so I can't phone for the install # anymore. Fortunately I had to install it alot of times due to a faulty computer and so I had written the install #'s down. Now I just have to keep trying to install it untill a number that I have the corresponding install # shows up. Anyone else have to deal with that? Up until six months ago I was working on Corel Draw 4, now I'm using 6 & 8. I also am using Windows 98.

My shop truck is a 1983 toyota 4x4 truck. The box was so rusty I replaced it with a cedar box. The frame rusted through last fall, so I had doublers installed/welded. She still looks pretty though, and with only 275K on it still has some life left. Once my Residency is confirmed I'll post a picture.

Ha! I still have letter-art 8.0 on one of my systems, I still go back to it if for no other reason than to output a DXF of a file to bring it into coreldraw. I still have my PNC1000 as a backup, works just fine. I have upgraded wives since I started in the biz, though. Talk about a HARD DRIVE!

Kelly, have you tried 'Ghost' to make an image of a working hard drive? Then when you get a glitch in any of the programs, you run ghost and copy the old working image back over the hard drive. It's much quicker than a full installation of windows, printer & plotter software etc. I can email you with instructions if you like. Best wishes, Ian Stewart-Koster

Anagraph Excel 1, and Anagraph Excel 5 (both sprocket 15 in plotters, and my original Gerber S=750 30 in plotter (the one you stack weights on the cutting head for different pressure) the 286 computer with 5 inch floppys and a monitor (chroma? not color kinda an amber screen) and my pride and joy a 386 with TURBO! 4B 15"- paid $100 used S750 30"- paid $200 used PNC 1050 15"- paid $850 used PNC 960 24"- bought new 8 years ago
This old crap was bought cheap and does nothing but make me money. Some of it runs slower than new technology but I'm a one man shop and can only do so much at a time anyway. I have a friend who may be giving me an edge he bought new years ago and never used. Free of charge if he can dig it out of the attic. I like deals.

ok,so the old stuff stacks up, but here in the frozen north, it started me thinking about the old stuff in my shop. Starting with the shop itself...108 year old church...shop truck, 1950 Chev 1-ton, yclept "Thunder Punkin"...shop boat {yep, we do lake service} 1952 Chris Craft ...one #8 Grumbacher quill that I know for sure is over fifty years old and still in use, and oh yeah the oldest tool in the place...me. You may have guessed by now that we don't do no vinyl here, strictly paint and carving...

Murray, I vacation in Ontario every summer we can get away. Your shop and your '52 Chris Craft sounds like something worth seeing. If I can figure out where you're located I may stop by to say hello. Canada is a great place!

Tony- Love to have you stop by - Kenora is on the north side of Lake of the Woods, on the farthest west side of the province, directly north of International Falls, Minnesota. Be warned - if you stop by we'll have to talk shop, cruise the lake and drink single malt scotch!
