Can anyone tell me of a place to get a download of the 2002 Ford Crown Victoria outline without buying the whole $500 CD Collection?????????

Yep, just got the solution last night. The book is entitled "Draw Cars Like a Pro."

In the case of the Crow Vic, you could probably use an earlier model. You can go to the dealership and get a brochure and scan it in and work over that. You'll have the specs at the same time.

Derick,

E-mail Christian at Digital Auto Library. I can't speak for him, but I bet he'd sell you only what you needed.

Its worth a shot.

True story, Christian is the man. I own his collection, and have the 1993-2000 edition for sale if you want it. His stuff is accurate.

Here I go again.... Buy a cheap $150.00 digital camera, and you can take a shot of every vehicle that customers bring to you, you will never be stuck. Just download the image into you're sign making software and then design away, over the image of the vehicle.

Hi Folks,
just a quick reply to Neil's last post. While Digital Cameras definitely have their place in the Sign world, they are often not an adequate replacement for an actual vehicle template. Due to a phenomenon called "angular distortion", a picture taken from the middle of the side of the vehicle will not be even remotely accurate towards each end of the vehicle. The parallax of the lens assures this will happen. I usually take 3 shots from the side of the car to get it right.

Also, the unfortunate truth about digital cameras is that they will not go over to a customer's place of business and take pictures, they require a human being to accompany them and push buttons. To add to the frustration, the human being must take at least three pictures and some measurements. Even if the vehicle is sitting in that human's parking lot, it must still be shot and measured. I would find itmore logical to design and talk on the phone selling jobs at the same time.

Seriously, many, many people tell me they use both The Library and the Camera as design and sales tools. I own two foolishly expensive digital cameras myself.

My two cents....

and by the way - I'm Canadian and my Idiot Politicians do NOT speak for me....

Christian,
Is there any possibility you may market individual or small group packages of your templates. Say truck sample of a model year?

Actually, if you can increase the focal length of the lens (ie: use a zoom lens) or use a lens with a narrow field of view, and stand a good distance away from the vehicle, you can bring the parallax down to virtually nil. [Smile]
