Once again I managed to sell something I had not thought through all the way. I designed a 4'x8' flowchart diagram for a local paper mill; they want to use magnetic arrows to set goals for the day & post yesterdays results. I am not sure how well my large vinyl decal is going to stick to the 20 gauge galvanized steel. Will the oil in the steel not let it stick? It seems that way. The graphics are too detailed to paint (they wanted their logo 4'x4', faded to 10% in the background etc.)Suggestions? Help. Did I mention they hope it will be up by tomorrow morning?

Phil, our experience has been that viny sticks to galvanized steel just fine. We prepped the metal like any other surface. We used alcohol for easy cleanups. We never tried Rapid Prep on galvanized steel but it should do the job. Vic G

Yes vinyl will adhere to galvanized steel.
We demonstrated this at a letterhead meet in San Jose in 1987 (PSS). We used Rapid Tac to clean AND apply (we hadn't designed Rapid Prep yet).

PSS (product sign supply) also sells "rubber-steel" an adhesive backed magnetic receptive material, that you shouldn't need based on the above advice, but for future reference it is a smooth surface that vinyl will look great on, & can be used instead of real steel.

Use Galvanised often for magnetic boards, try a dry erase overlaminate for a super '$' product. I usually laminate the metal to a sintra or even coroplast backing just to make handling easier and enable the use of plastic edge caps.
