I have a 5' x 3' white pan face sign I need to create a black block-out background for. The lettering will be white and blue reverse out of black. I'm planning on using Avery A9 translucent for the blue and letting the pan face show thru for the white. My question is; am I better off painting the black backgorund or using a block-out vinyl? I'm worried about the pan sides if I use a vinyl.

Hi Greg,
The Avery Blockout films are ideal for this application. A5852-S White and A5851-S Black are the two blockout films we offer. This material is 4.0 mil cast material that is white on one side and black on the other. This film is 100% opaque! It is designed for flat and simple curves. With a pan face, depending on the corner radius, it may be difficult to lay down the material in those areas. To insure against light leaks, any applicators will use a combination of vinyl and paint whenever you run into these tight corners. For complete light blockout, our blockout vinyl is the way to go!
