Last week we installed a $1000 sandblast sign and a $2000 sandblast sign and after being about 12 jobs behind, we're caught up. Now we're down to one decent $2000 job which will be installed next Tuesday.
Monday..I'm working on this last job (for a repeat customer) a lady comes in and orders a little 1x2 MDO sign...Hey...at least it's somethin' Tuesday....some mailbox lettering...Man...I'll take anything. Wednesday, a lady ordered a sandblasted desk sign and a little 10'' x 5'' sandblasted door sign...OK...a little more funner. Thursday, still busy, a couple of quotes, but no sales. Got all those jobs made though. Today, closed on four:
Hand-lettering a semi trailer (repeat customer) Some reflective on aluminum signs (repeat customer) Some more aluminum signs (referral from repeat customer) Some v3 sign panels w/ letters (repeat customer)
Whew! Maybe it's picking up again! Got a few more quotes out...maybe they'll pan out too.
Y'all have a nice weekend.

Its kinda funny how we all enjoy being six jobs behind rather than being one job short of busy.
I had a major job go on hold for a few weeks... and a day later signed a great design job that will keep me busy for the next month complete with a 50% deposit up front..
Gotta like that.

Things are definately picking up here (thankfully).
I'm going to have to work through the weekend just to keep from getting behind.
Compared to a couple months ago, it feels kinda good.

I know how you feel Wayne. So far February has turned into the highest grossing month in my thirty years in this business. Im embarrassed to tell you how much I have sold in just the past three weeks and I still have another week left.
The past three weeks I have already sold one third of last years gross. Thats kicking some serious butt.
Now comes the work part but I'd rather be facing this much work than worrying if and when the next job will be walking through the door.

Thanks for the replies! I've had a nice weekend too. The framing, drying in, plumbing and wiring is done in the new house we're building and I was installing insulation yesterday. Not my favorite job but I'm glad it's done and I'm particular about how it's done. Now all we have left is the HVAC, drywall, painting, receptacles and lights, spiral stair unit, fireplace, cabinets, floorcovering, fixtures and appliances...etc. I enjoy building things.
Yes, I would rather do one $10,000 job instead of ten $1000 jobs or 100 $100 jobs. Definitely....but until that happens....some larger jobs would really help out towards paying for the house.

Would a good hour apply in this situation? A little background first... Now that I'm in the digital printing business, my employer tries to remind me of the competition and low profit margins that I have to deal with if I want to keep making signs. I keep trying to prove him wrong. Well, last summer a client wanted some small decals. After 4 hours of going back & forth with diferent quantities, materials, etc., the client ordered 50,000 of them. I grossed $100 an hour on that one. Well, she just called the other day and needed prices again. Once I verified that prices hadn't gone up and emailed her a new quote. This time I invested was 45 minutes and grossed $425 for a repeat order. Tha's about $533 an hour - not bad for a dumb old sign guy
Havin' fun, Checkers

OUCH! Yes Brian, Did your boss give you a bonus? I could use a couple of transactions like that right now.
