I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on handpainting on vinyl. I've airbrushed before. Just wondering what vinyl prefrence is and the steps used to apply. I use one shot sign paints. I am wanting to do a chrome type shadow. any helpful hints would be great Thanks Dita

if you're gonna use 1-shot:
1. you gotta prime it. 1-shot reccomends the Chromatic brand "Ti-Cote" -- its waterborne, dries very quickly, and comes in clear gloss or clear matte. (looks milky, dries clear). be sure to clean and wipe the banner with alcohol before priming.
2. Speed it up. you can add some 1-shot activator/hardener if you want the paint to dry faster. works great, and only takes a few drops. (it better -- its $30/quart).
3. Texture the banner texture might be more noticable when using a brush. i haven't been able to do a good blend with a brush -- i use spraypaints for that. for your chrome you might want to use a harder edge so you don't have to fight with the blending as much. also, 1-shot is hard to blend in the best of times, so the hard-edge approach is probably better anyway.
(I got the first two answers directly from Frank Manning at 1-Shot/Spraylat this summer. I'm NOT an expert on banners, so I asked him what he suggested. I used to use Deka, but they're defunct.)

Gerber and a couple of other brands make enamel receptive clear. We used to do a pen plot on the vinyl with registration marks then hand letter it and contour cut afterwards. It worked great! Hope this helps ya!
