We have a customer who would like to have his logo sandblasted into the sidewalk in front of his business. Has anybody ever done this? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,

With a standard aggregate mix, you can't blast too deep, because of the inconsistency of the mix, but it can be done. I usually like 3/8" pea gravel mix to do this, the color and texture is more consistant. Rick

hows the city feel about that?....also can you imagine the mess that will make and the dust? i think he needs to rethink that idea....maybe paint it instead?

Joe, The City is the customer. They got guys to handle the mess. I warned 'em. We will most likely set up a tent of some sort while blasting.

Hey Joe,
I used to work in the concrete biz. If it's a sidewalk, they probably have nice sized rocks in the mix. I've seen some companies that use limestone in the mix as well. I don't think it would be that deep when you blast this, but you may want to think about this: would it be deep enough for someone to step on and lose thier balance? Could be a lawsuit.

We don't plan to take it very deep. Just enough to etch it...maybe 1/8 inch or less. As far as the size of the rocks is concerned, they are telling me that they took this into consideration before pouring and used a pretty fine grade mix.
I personally wish they had thought about this logo idea before they scheduled the pouring of the sidewalk. Then we would have had time to build a routed "form" to press into the wet concrete. Much cleaner job.

Joe...
Tony has a good point. They would be opening themselves up for a liability lawsuit if anyone tripped on it. Don't say it wont happen either... I have seen some people do some pretty dumb things when they're walking around. They just don't look where they're going sometimes. At least get yourself some sort of disclaimer and a signature that gets you off the hook if someone sues the city.
I wonder if the blasted area could be filled somehow with some kind of clear resin?

How about acid etching it, though it might be to subtle, it might be enough to show a logo, and not be a hazard, I think if they used a 3/8" pea gravel mix, (the same size used in exposed aggregate) you will have no problem with people tripping on it, I think the problem will come, if the sanblasting is to deep. 1/8" doesnt seem like much, but if it's crushed aggregate, it can get pretty rough.
