This was sent to me today.

"Sign in an antique shop in Baltimore: 'Our prices are firm. The management is not emotionally equipped to haggle.'"

I'm putting it in the Lobby this week. [Smile]

How about this classic Glen.

"If your brother can do it for $25 and a case of beer .... Why the HELL are you wasting my time!"

Ha ha a little rough but it works [Wink]

Well, Glenn, I read your very excellent quote, chuckled, considered posting it on my wall as well, and a little later the phone rang. How much for a 9x14 magnetic for my vehicle, a woman said.
I asked her why such a strange size, that ordinarily they are 12 x 24 or maybe a little less high depending on the vehicle.
Well, I just want it bigger than a sheet of paper, she said.
We settled on the size (18x24) the copy (the usual plus a little) any extras (none) and I said it would be 80 $ for 2.
OH MY GOD, GAWDALMIGHTY she said as she hung up on me.

Then a designer walked in with a floppy in hand, to have me make the banner I reluctantly quoted last week.
I was reluctant because she said things like:
It does not matter what size, just about 8-10 feet, and I don't have the words just yet, but it's only one color, and does not need to be hemmed, we'll only use it a short while for this event, and then keep it good and rolled up till the next one. Just needs to be real simple, she had said. You all get the idea, if I allow the implied money squeeze I have a loss leader in the making.

The floppy was a PDF file and she attempted to make me feel incompetent and all my software inferior because I could not work from it to produce the banner with 3 lines of copy in 3 fonts and a large globe with countries/lines and halftone in the middle.

I did not get up this morning I said, and ask:
"Who am I going to work for for free today."
This was not a firm price because it was for a different banner. Now that I know what you really wanted, and that I have to create the artwork as well, let me refigure this. I will do it so I will make a decent profit, and I am not emotionally equipped to haggle. (Thank you Glenn-I got to use it)
She accepted the words, and the price, it was not her money, anyway.

Should have posted this at your other question which I believe was: How's business. and the answer is: Not so great, layoffs, unemployment, people uncomfortable about the upcoming war time and uncertain about how it will affect them and their family's security. If they have children in the Army they want to draft the Bush twins.
If anyone is booming and securely optimistic about the upcoming year, I have not run across them. Wish I could end this optimistically, but that's how it is on my end.
