Another customer with a business card (he can't recall the printer, might be inconvenient when he runs out of cards) and his business name is in one of those fonts that only exists on certain planets when the moon is waxing..

I will try this image feature on here to give folks some samples of what it looks like..maybe someone out there will recognize it..

Here is the perfect opprotunity to earn some nice ca$h!

Offer to design a letterhead, Logo and all the related stuff!

Then you can sell him Biz cards, Envelopes, Stationary, Biz Brochures, etc. as well as signs!!!!!!!!!!!

University Roman Bold has a similar feel but is not a match. He might take it as a substitute.

You can go to my fonts and click the what the font link, and you can upload your image for a try at finding what it is. I tried a couple of your letters but a perfect match didnt come up.

Bernhard Modern has a lot of those characteristics. It would make a good base to start if you decide to modify something to match.

The kicker to these things is a lot of people don't realize how much we agonize over the fine points of letter construction, don't see what the fuss is about, and probably don't distinguish the subtle differences between one font and another.

I think Si has an excellent point. Either sell him a design package or don't get too lathered about an exact match. If it's not critical enough for the client to pay extra for, maybe he'd be better served by bashing it out in something 'similar'.

John, thanks for the link to that font site.

There are people out there that call themselves "font designers" when their work looks like this... I call them "botch's"
"hacks" "idiots" anyone want to add to this?

Oh here's another "wannabe"

I apologize rob...my post was of no help at all... I do my best not to be negative here but it slips out from time to time.

Bad fonts are a pet peve with me and when I see one that bad it sends me screaming from the room.

Hopefully you will sell him on something better.

sorry I 'm not able to help!

*whew!*

I best check in here more often!
Wasn't expecting the flood of helpful replies.

To update:

Monte;

No worries.
I shared your sentiment when I saw this business card..I dont care if Michealangelo himself
designed the letters..they dont float MY boat.

Scott;

I'm 'googling' at this very moment for ITC's MonaLisa.

Elaine;

Cut and pasted your url..came up dead. Checking Adobe.com

Everyone;

Thanks for replying and trying so hard to help. I run across these font issues often. Usually I can find the orignal printer of the cards..but every now and then, well, you know.

In my efforts, I have found the font submittal site mentioned early in this thread, and also 'Identifont' (www.identifont.com). The only limitation these sites have is their database. If they aint got the font, they aint gonna help. But you have to ask to find out.

Im the sort who will search myself before asking for assistance, so if you see me asking for help on here, its because I have exhausted all the avenues I have.

Thanks again everyone.

Viola!

Haven't looked at them yet, but I managed to find
ITC Mona Lisa Solid and Recut.

(www.filesearching.com)

But wait..

These have that 'bin' extension on them..not 'ttf'.

AHH! They're MAC fonts!!

No problem. Google for 'Crossfont'.
Download the demo.

Run the 'bin' files through...

Instant TTF!

if you have the Corel Draw disc it's New Order (knockoff name). you'll need to modify, but it's the base font.

The Crossfont program didnt work with these bin fonts, but it did work with two previous ones I tried on it.

Still figgering...

Aha!

That filesearching site had two entries of the same fonts.

I just nabbed the other two, and crossfont ran them seamlessly.

I really recommend this crossfont program to anyone who has to deal with converting mac stuff to PC. The same company makes 'Transmac', a program for converting whole Mac FILES into PC.
Haven't tried Transmac, but if it works as well as crossfont, Im in like Flynn.

If someone need translating font for Mac to PC, or from PC to Mac I have TransType which do this work perfectly for TTF/TrueType and PostScript fonts.

If you need a conversion just send me the file.
