Well I work for someone, with my line of work, reputation is the key. On my work at home, having the guts to charge enough.

Since a good share of my work involves subcontracting to construction companies...getting the job done properly, ON SCHEDULE!

Heheheheheee...it sure isn't my good looks, or sparkling personality!

Diversifying myself from MOST of my compitition by promoting whatever I do as art and not just a mass produced product.

Signs
racing graphics
custom paint
its all art to me.

I hope diversifying is the right word?

Like Burt Reynolds told that gap toothed girl " I make good babies".

But The truth is, I will make the cold call. I know that just because someone doesn't have the job today, doesn't mean that they won't have one coming up. Usually I more weary of the ones that say they have something they need right now. It usually means a half thought out idea.

Still using brushes & one shot - designing with paper & pencil - computer is only used for book keeping. Low overhead, high profits!

Bob...The "one thing" is something my dad told me when I first started doing things on my own (35 years ago).

And I quote..."Never spend more tomorrow than you brought in today" "Never"

And I "never" have!

"Werks fer me it'll werk fer you"

Monte....At the risk of the "Wrath of Bob" for posting twice. AMEN!!!

NEVER spend more that you have ALREADY made!!!!

Bob Burns- I feel compelled to mention this weekend was Robert Burns day. I suppose this isn't news to you. Scotland's most famous poet & songwriter had his 244th birthday, and Scottish folk 'round the world celebrate at a "Robert Burns dinner" and do a bit of drinking and eating. Here is the Burns tartan: Get yerself a kilt and party next year! -

Duncan....I LIKE YOUR STYLE!
Jeremy....Robert Burns was SCOTTISH.....MY people are all decendants from the infamous O'BYRNE bunch of IRELAND. When my grandparents arrived in N.Y. just before the turn of the century, the people at ELLIS ISLAND saw fit to change the spelling of their name to BURNS from O'BYRNE.
There's some useless trivia for you to consider.

Lots of names got changed on Ellis Island:
Everyone wondered why this elderly Chinese gentleman had a very Scandinavian name. He explained that when he was going thru immigration processing at Ellis Island, he was in line behind one Lars Olson. When he got to the front, he was asked his name: he said "Sam Ting" so the clerk wrote Lars Olson
