Kathy and I are considering expanding way past our humble PC-50 Roland thermal printer and going full digital. We are a small design studio that specializes in artwork. Fine art, Caricatures, cartoons, Chalkart. and other areas including artistic stainless steel and glass menu systems and digital art installation that we currently purchase from elswhere. As well as Vinyl signs
we are certainly not a conventional sign studio..or shop, however.
However, I would really like the advice of you guys that may have used various digital ink/solvent ink systems. We certainly arent in the category of top end purchase and would consider the most economical entry into the digital field..
My requirements are. economically priced, longest exterior life, Archival quality print and quality and low running costs..
Can you please lend your expertise and assistance.
regards
Peter and Kathy

Peter, I don't think anyone's ignoring you, just no one here is operating such a printer as of yet. From my own observations they have yet to be proven. Some of them are not truely "solvent" as they need special media. Others I have heard are really eating up the printheads. I'd do some serious research as of yet. The really big guys, Salsa etc. seem to be proven but I don't think that a 12' printer is exactly what you are looking for.
You might try some of these links for some more information,.
Roland has forums on particular units that you may find interesting and you can probably contact users. I have a CJ-500 and lovin' it but no knowledge on the Soljet. http://www.rolanddga.com/boards/ Posted by Riles (Member # 383) on :
Peter, have a look at the new Epson printers available here in Adelaide from Graphic Art supplies. They have 2 models - the 7600 is 24"wide and the 9600 is 44" wide and costs under 10k. The print quality is awesome - up to 1440 x 2880 dpi. Not solvent though, but new archivable pigment inks... are supposed to hold up much better than their old inkjet inks. I was thinking of getting one and trying to run Dicojet outdoor inks thru it.
All the best, Neil

If are inclined to want to support a Letterville Merchant, you also might want to consider the new Gerber Jetster -- which is available from SPANDEX "down under". You'll find it front and centre on www.gspinc.com Posted by Peter Vasic (Member # 2377) on :
Thanks for all your replies ! You guys are great. We'd love to here from more of you
