The world is such a crazy place. For me, when things seem to crash out of control, I put down the troubled newspapers, turn off the noisy tv and bothersom computer, and turn to my family.
Today Cody layed down with his big Caillou doll, pulled a blanket up to their chins and said, "Mama, picture?" Soooo cute! That alone jolted me back to reality.
Turning to my family is the answer for me. Am I running away from reality? Yep, at times! But what a direction to run!
I'm off to energize. I'm going to pour myself a fresh hot coffee, make breakfast, and go play HotWheels.

For us the last week and a half was full of family and friends... lots of laughs and good times and great food. Our house was a full and busy place. (we have the biggest house so everyone gathers here)
Last night after a two day new years get together the last of the company shuffled out the door and Janis & I were alone once again.... the house back to normal.
Today the decorations are all put away, and we had a good sleep in.
Now it's back to the studio and back to work. ANd I'm looking forward to it too!
Got lots to do!!! And our 3 week holiday in the sun starts in only 20 days!!!

I'm so lucky I married into having 2 grandchildren. I have been fortunant enough to know them for all their 4 & 7 years. No matter what my mood, they can correct it with a hello on the phone or just a glimpse of their glowing smiles. My youngest just turned 10 and still clings to me like a tick. He's sharp as a tack too and gives his old man a run for his money at checkers. Lately, we have been play Scrabble too. I've taken my eldest son hunting and fishing since he was barely out of diapers and now he's hooked. This past summer the three of us did some fishing in the creek swamp and had a great time. My daughter and I have been close from day one. All I have to do is hear her laughing and I go into silly histerics. What is she laughing about? Who knows.
My kids are already 16, 14, and 10. I FINALLY bought a camcorder this Christmas and the delay in doing so is something I very much regret. I do remember most of the cute little things they said when they were little though. I ain't in a hurry for any of mine to leave the nest.

Wayne, just in case... write down those things you remember, for a time when they may be harder to recall.
I have a tape of my 22 year old daughter talking before she could speak "our" language. It's not getting regular rotation on my playlist, but it is one of the most treasured CD's for when I do listen to it. Also got, for a gift from my brother last year, an interview he did with my dad before his death last january. I had it digitally copied to CD & it is another treasure on the topic of family memories

Bob Rochon, you've got that right!
Lately, I've been slowly coming out of holiday mode, ... and very reluctantly. I caught a bug, and I'm just getting over that. I've got a few little mounds of work I'm chipping away at, and a big ole' mound of bills ready to bite me in the butt!
Still, I'm easing back into it all and feeling pretty darn lucky to have as much going for me as I do.
I'd like to share a couple of recent big smiles (the kind with a few tears attached) I've recieved from this board over the holiday break.
Both came to me by way of snail mail, which made it even more unexpected. Both were gifts that had special meaning for me, as they incorporated the time and skills of the sender.
Bill Riedell had graciously painted a portrait of me and sent it as a gift. I was touched to say the least. I have a deep fondness and respect for Bill, and I feel truly honored by his gift.
Joe Rees, (my friend & mentor in this trade) sent me a christmas card (it was a copy, he sent to others also) that was also originally a hand painted peice of artwork. I have always admired his painting style, and so this had special meaning to me. Seeing it was familiar, and brought back some nice moments from earlier "sign shop days" for me.
In the hub-bub of the holidays and having been hit with this bug, I have not had the chance to properly thank these fellows for their thoughtfulness towards me. They will be hearing from me on it, to be sure! , but in the meantime, should they read this, I'd like to flash them a big smile right now!
All in all, I'm very appreciative for what I get out of life, and for my ability to make it good. I hope I never find myself taking too much of it for granted.

Laurie and I had the best Christmas season of our lives. Both kids have their own places now. They came across town and stayed with us for a few days. We visited friends and family and spent really quality time together talking, playing games, and attending church together. As teenagers, they often drove each other and us crazy and visa versa I'm sure, but now there is so much mutual respect and friendship. We often look at each other now and say "are those our children" I'm sure there will be challenges ahead, so I'm enjoying every minute of this. Happy new year everyone, thanks for the thread Donna.
