Hi guys. I just bought a old '86 jeep CJ-7 & would like to paint it. Do I need to prep or prime the fiberglass hard top with something special?

just treat it like the rest of the jeep.....with automotive primers and top coats..

Felix.
I've done a couple of jeeps, and had good luck using a plastics primer on the hardtop. (Being a PPG shop, I use 801).
The Gelcoat (or whatever it is) they used when they built those things seemed to be emulsifying, and I had seen other custom paint jobs on Jeeps where the top weren't holding paint that well.
It's the same proceedure I'm using when I'm painting the ground effect kits on those big over the road trucks, and the lower sections of snowmobile cowls...anything that has that godawful "clorox bottle" texture to it.

Rotsa Ruck pal,
Brian

Thanks guys.

Hey Brian, I'm heading up to New City, NY in Feb. Any chance we could meet half way & have a couple dozen beers?
