Did you ever look at a word, and it would look really wierd, like it's spelled wrong or did'nt make sense at all... I know it's not important, but how many times have I lettered something, and think that it's spelled wrong...even the simplest of words.

Happens to me all the time. When doing multiple designs of the same sign after a short while it all looks WRONG... spelling that is. It just looks goofy.
But when I stop and check it it all is OK.
It depends on what you are concentrating on I guess.

Did you spell check "weird"?

Happens to me too, drives me loco! I can stare at it a million times and it looks like it's spelled wrong. What is funny, is that if you change to a different typestyle it may look fine, go figure! Rick

i don't know what causes it -- i suspect its something to do with the way our mind recognizes patterns. we look for change -- and when there isn't any, our minds try to "force" some change. if i look at my name long enough it will look wierd. i was practicing some lettering (having trouble with "D"s and "B"s) and by the time i've done a line of them they ALL look weird (even the "good" ones), so i have to stop and do something else.

Scooter, in my case I KNOW what causes it! It is because I am getting younger. hehe Seriously as we age we don't retain unimportant things as we did before. I guess our C drive gets full and slow.

hahaha Kathy....aint that the truth! The unimportant things get deleted real quick. Posted by Roy Frisby (Member # 736) on :
That must be what happened to the "idiot" that put up the banner here that reads: "HILLSBORO NNI".

Yes David I did spell Wierd, Weird... but it looked a little Wierd to me, I did'nt bother to spell check Wierd, because I used the old rule "I before E except after C",... but it still looks Wierd, so now I'm going to spell it weeerd... now that don't look weird, or does it?

I know what you mean. This happens to me all the time. When I'm doing a text layout in Corel, I type all the words in then select one to see it in different fonts. As I'm scrolling down the font list, I can see how the word looks in that font and it starts to look weird and mispelled.
You never realise how strange words like "for" start to look after a few font changes.
I thought I was the only one, I see I'm not alone!

Neil,
I think you have exhausted all possible permutations of "weird".
A fellow sign man once told me that a person would have to be awfully ignorant not to know two or three ways to spell any word. If someone knocks our spelling, we'll just have to plead their ignorance. I often tell my customers as I deliver a sign that we spelled "most of the words correctly."

Same thing happens here, I blame it on the "halfhiemers", I havn't went "All" the way...yet!!!!
It works to when you "say" a word. Do you you ever say a word and then repeat it and it sounds even worse????
