i need a little advice on a current project. it's a diecast plane that will be a Christmas gift. our customer wants it to match his personal Lear Jet EXACTLY. the graphics are not a problem (Edge print onto clear 225 and diecut). my questions concern the painting and clearing once the decals are made. it was originally painted an off-white, and the customer wants a true white. i've removed the OEM decals and sanded entire areas to paint with palm sander and 600 grit wet/dry paper. the sanding mainly took off the gloss and seems rough enough for paint to adhere to. i'm thinking i could airbrush OneShot Lettering white enamel (how much should i thin, and using what?), apply the new decals, and airbrush on a clear (any suggestions?). thanks

I'd go with something other than One Shot. It's too easy to run it, plus it takes so long to tack up there are more chances for trash to get in it. Then you will be dealing with the problem of what to clear it with. These little "favor" type jobs can really turn into nightmares. I'd go with a can of Krylon myself, can't help you on what clear to use over the edge prints though.

Someone else will have to advise you on airbrush.
I can tell you that Krylon is easy to shoot and get a smooth finish. It dries to the touch in 15 minutes or so. You can build up layers without further prep, the upper coats "melt into" the existing finish and provide a self leveling effect. If you don't like the results (on the first day), you can clean it off with engine degreaser and paper towels and start over.
Also, wear lung protection of some kind. Just a whiff of the stuff makes me cough like crazy. Vic G

Krylon is an excellent choice but if you want to air brush it why not use Centari automotive ...costs more but does a hell of a job.
And you can clear over it and the decals

What my friends above said, I agree. As far as clearing, you might try frog juice. Works over just about everything. I have cleared over one shot, and house of kolor with it. Works great.

thanks all, i also spoke to a Hobby shop modeler who said for a good non-yellowing high gloss to try Future floor coating (found at grocery stores). he also said to go with the Krylon. anyone ever worked with Future as far as a clear coat?
