Quick question for you all. Got my new Sony laptop, & been loading up the software I will be using. I loaded Norton system works 2003. & now when I start up the laptop, (which is not connected to the internet now, but it was once briefly)I get a Norton warning about a malicious script. It goes on to say the file is called tgcmd.exe and has "virus-like" behavior or characteristics (something like that)
So I then have to choose weather to STOP it, ALLOW it to run, QUARANTINE it or whatever.
It seems to be a "script" that attempts to run each time I start up. Since I can stop it, I'm not too worried about it developing into further problems, but I HATE wierd computer quirks, & on a new system I am even less tolerant, so I hope I can figure out what to do so I don't have to see a WARNING message every time I start up my new toy.

This really won't answer your question but you can disable the script blocking in Norton to stop getting that message.
I'm with you, if something has a problem from the beginning you could be in for problems in the long haul. Is it easy to return it and get a new one?

It's very easy, but it didn't start doing that until after I did quite a few things that must have created the problem. Things I don't have time to do again before leaving on the trip I bought it for.
I will learn about the "blocking" that could be good enough.

My guess is that a program you installed (the exe file you mentioned) isn't getting along with your Norton. Simply open Norton Anti-Virus and click on the Script Blocking area and then click disable.

to disable it If you're running windows 98 or up, click Start, Run type msconfig and press Enter. Click the upper Tabs (Startup Tab first). Find the lines having in command tgfix.exe and tgcmd.exe. Uncheck (clear) the boxes. Save the changes, exit msconfig, Restart PC
The sonny computers have an optin that allows thier support to acces yout machine to fix it online..
thats part of that serice... Amongst the things that the installation does is apparently install support.com software, and specifically two programs: tgcmd.exe and tgfix.exe. This software, according to Comcast, provides tools for their technical support people. While that may be the intent, the software also enables any program to be remotely executed on a PC in a manner not too different than many of the recent e-mail worms. There are also concerns about whether this software can be used to monitor what people do with their computers.

Thanks all, sounds like the problem is well on the way to being solved. I'll do some reading up on those links soon.
