Dave,
I didn't get the email, but thought the URL looked fishy, so I went to http://ebay.com and did a search & came up with the same page here , so it is on Ebay.

Seems legit like any other previously owned but possibly unused software being sold by someone who aquired it, doesn't want it & only needs $100 out of it. Wonder what it will end up going for?

I would want it to include a signed transfer of ownership document if that is what the manufacturer would require for the new owner to legally hold the license. That is how Adobe handles legitimate transfers.

Dave,
I recently bid on a Vector Art Mega Collection auction on e-bay (from a legit supplier) and got an e-mail from a guy wanting to sell any number of programs, ranging from Corel, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flexi, Signlab, you name it. It's obviously pirated, but I can't believe his total lack of concern. I hope Mark from EstiMate sees your post. I*'d like to hear his take on this.

I'd be careful.

I would check with Mark to see if this guy is a registered user. If not, it is probably a pirated demo. Estimate, once installed, has to receive a special code from Mark that is specific to your particular computer. Otherwise, it will just time out and become useless.

Dont know if you guys noticed, but The Estimate software went for $95.00 last week on our own letterhead auction. I was bidding on it, but forgot to check the bids the morning it went off.
Heck of a deal.

Hello everybody! Thank you for your concern, and thanks to Jon Aston with ND Graphics for pointing out this thread to me. Dave, thank you for bringing this to light.

Since eBay does not offer the user's contact information to anyone but the seller, I don't know if this guy is legitimate or not. There have been a couple of instances of people selling pirated copies of EstiMate, but this is difficult for them because I didn't use an off-the-shelf security package - I wrote my own, and I change it slightly between minor releases. This means people who buy a "cracked" copy of EstiMate are at the mercy of the seller who is unscrupulous to begin with in order to keep the version they have running, and that none of our upgrades will work for them.

As a result, this has not been a widespread problem. I designed the system this way so that I could concentrate on legitimate users.

I must say, this is a "buyer beware" type of situation. If, in fact, this guy is selling a single copy of EstiMate and was registered as a user we fully support such a transfer. If you are thinking of bidding on this, however, you should know that we require:

1. A signed statement of transfer of ownership from the previous owner (just like Doug mentions)
2. A $100 transfer of ownership fee, payable by the buyer, for which the buyer gets a new copy of the software on CD, our latest training CD, and all the perks a new buyer receives such as 60 days of free telephone support, free telephone training, and an opportunity to use all our plugins for 60 days.

I'd suggest you email the guy and ask how he acquired it. Post that information here, and I'll find out for you if he's legitimate. I'd like to keep this a public forum, however, in case he's not legit - this way we establish a "paper trail," so to speak.

Welp. that $100 transfer fee just knocked me out of buying estimate especially to help out someone who needs to sell legal copy to get out of trouble......

Sorry Mark..

If you click on the seller's feedback # (The (2) next to his name) then click on the last item he purchased (# 1770523840) you'll see that he won a plotter from Signwarehouse in an auction ending 11/13. This plotter came with Estimate in a package deal. It appears he copied and pasted all of Signwarehouse's info into his own auction.
Transfer of ownership fee? This is news to me although I've never thought of selling my copy.

Email me with offers or questions at mnewman@mtco.com
Sorry don't mean to turn this into classified trail, but software works great and I have no use for it anymore.
