What is the diffrence in a hollow spinner and a solid spinner for gold leaf and which do most use?

JoAnna,...The solid spinnits were the original design and the hollow ones were an improvement. The hollow spinnits allow for more padding to be used under the velvet thus much less chance of burning the gold when doing the engine turning process.
