I put up a downloadable AI sample from The RUBY Collection this morning for all my friends in Letterville. It's just one of many, but is typical of the entire collection.

Cool! Thanks Don.

Thanks Don,
Looks great, and makes me want the rest.
When I downloaded it was a .ps file. Hope I can open it.

Thank you, Don. It is an attractive package. Rick and Lola's site is cool too.

I goofed up and uploaded the wrong AI file earlier. That file had not been completed, and I uploaded the correct file about 10:20am DST. So, anybody who downloaded it before then might want to replace that one with this one.
I've gotten a couple emails giving me a heads up on errors in Corel 10. Of course, one reason that I wanted to put this sample up on the board was to let you see an example of what will be offered. But, also, I figured it would be a great way to get some beta testing in on various design programs...I think the whole gamut is represented on this board. I guarantee that all issues will be dealt with before burning the first CD.
Please email me if any of you have any problems with the sample file, other than Corel, which I'm already aware of. (If all else fails there, I'll probably end up including .cdr versions on the CD.)

Don, the quality of that image is amazing.
It's clear that you've put hours into making it perfect. I can't imagine doing an entire collection like this.
Thanks for the freebie, can't wait to see the rest!
BTW- I couldn't open it in Corel 10 but I could in Corel 8

Don, the PS extension on it might be what's tripping up Corel.
I couldn't import the PS file into Corel 8, but I tried changing the PS extension to AI instead.. I just renamed the file.. and it worked without any problems.
Looks great, by the way! You obviously put a ton of work into it!

I tried to open or import the file into Corel 11 & the whole program shut down! i e-mailed Don about this. Anyone else had this to happen? I want one too when it is available!
Posted by Don Coplen (Member # 127) on :
OK Mike...you're the second person to mention a ps extention. I uploaded the file with only an ai extention, so apparently something within the web is adding something I didn't put there.
Anybody else with problems try changing to the ai extention to see if that works? It could possibly be a web thing. Could I get off that easy? naaaaah LOL

Just wanted to make another promise. The first $50 profit goes to get my ugly mug back onto my posts here! (You printing this out, Steve? LOL)
The input I'm getting today is going to save me a whole lotta headaches tomorrow, and though I thank all of you..I gotta give Steve and Barb a huge THANK YOU for keeping this site going!
Posted by Terry Whynott (Member # 1622) on :
Even though the extension shows up as .ps, it still shows up in my list of .ai's when I select .ai file format. I didn't need to rename it. Corel 8 opened it up fine, Corel 11 shut right down, no errors or anything, just disappeared!

This is secondhand information - I was downloading a Rotary logo from Rotary International's website. There was a note there that said that MS Internet Explorer changes the extension and you have to change it back.

Logical fix (maybe). Click the ornament image on the webpage for a zipped folder containing both EPS and AI. Si tried it and apparently zipping hid it from Mr.Bill so that he couldn't mess with it.

I tried it too and it came through with the ps on the end. I thought uhoh, I thought he said ai.?, but tried the import anyway and it opened right up! Thats Corel 9.
Thank you Don.......

Well, all I get is a jpg. - the same colored pic on the site - not anything usable. I believe ai is what I would need - Don, I'm on Mac
Also - the eps. file comes up as a box with an X in it - not usable either
btw, Rick's site comes up with all the lettering blurred, smeared upward, in case you're the one working on that
uh, considering the threat of what Don plans on doing with that first fitty, I'm keeping my money - I won't be responsible for that Halloween mug being plastered right out in front of God and everybody...

Don, that is some first class stuff you have there. If the rest is as great as this one I know you will succeed.
Wishing you the very best on your new endeaver.

Hi Don,
It imported just fine for me, into both signlab and corel 9.
I got a sneak preview of another piece of this collection the other night. I broke it apart and checked out the pieces. Not too many nodes, and everything is perfectly balanced. No cleanup will be needed at all.
Don, if your whole collection is like that, it will be absolutely top-notch.
Excellent work. I can't wait to see more.

Mike, tell the fine people how old your mac is...you're the only person I know who has a computer with a plywood case.
Sue, I've been cleaning up every image spic and span. Ask Cheryl...my hand is becoming mouse-shaped. (Illustrator has an option that counts mouseclicks...and I had already put over 5000 clicks on this thing before 10am this morning)Think I'll turn that option off...doesn't help to this of it that way. LOL

Yeah Don, it's apparently affecting your ability to spell too. Posted by Don Coplen (Member # 127) on :
That wasn't a spelling error, that was a typing error. Posted by Wayne Webb (Member # 1124) on :
It opened fine in Corel 9. Thanks Don. I want to see the rest of them.
Posted by Si Allen (Member # 420) on :
Duuuuh...still shuts down Corel 10.
Posted by Don Coplen (Member # 127) on :
Si just answered the question and didn't even realize it. hahahaha
I gave si the exact same file a week or two ago and it opened fine for him....
so, it's gotta be some sorta freaky web thing.
Thanks Si! Anybody who don't know it, Si is a REAL rocket scientist...as opposed to those that act like they are.
Let's try something different...I took the download off of this thread and put a zipped folder on the ruby webpage that's linked at the top of this thread. It has both AI and EPS in it.

So where is this Rubyat Of Omar Coplen posted as a Zip? I see the same old jpg on Don's link - but a friend did send it to me as an AI file and it works on my solid gopher wood, hand crank MacIntosh #1 from The Ark, although it doesn't much come apart - 3 small pieces on the bottom and all the rest is locked together, not ungroupable.
Posted by Don Coplen (Member # 127) on :
Mike, clicking on the image will download the zip file now.
As far as being 'ungroupable', this is just a sample image. I am actually breaking all the designs down into individual elements on a separate file...so you'll be able to move them around, rotate, mirror, whatever...and weld. There's more to it than that, though. I'll have corners, panels, etc. on separate files for you to use, all of which will be completely editable (that doesn't mean you can eat them, Mike), but you'll have one page that's like an exploded view of the main design(s) to play with.
There's also a couple more features planned that I'm keepin under hat for now. Posted by Desire Rusovsky (Member # 2876) on :
Hi Don, Nice work, but what are the files in the "XtraStuf.mac" folder? They have the same name than the good files, but they are not eps or ai files.
Posted by John Deaton III (Member # 925) on :
Good stuff Don. I opened it in illustrator eight. Looking forward to seeing the cd.
