Sorry if this has been asked before, but I tried many different searches and couldn't find a solution.
A customer requested a bmp or jpg of their logo with a transparent background. I can convert the corel file to a bmp on the screen and select transparent background. When I save the bitmap it is saved as a corel file. I've tried exporting the bitmap as another bitmap or jpg, but it adds a white background. I've moved it over to corelpaint and it shows with a transparent background. When I attempt to save it, it wants to merge it with the background, and I end up with a white background again.
Any help??

The issue you have is your end file format. JPEG and BMP images do not support transparencies (sp?). The only widely used formats that I know of that support transparentcies (I cant spell) is Photoshop (PSD) and GIF. I am sure there are others, but maybe not as common. The downfall with using the GIF format is you only have a 216 color palette, so, if the image has alot of different tones, it will not look that good.

I'm glad to know that it won't work, because I tried everything I could think of. I tried to export it as a gif, and it looked like it was going to work, but at the end, it would add a background. I ended up saving the logo on a black background to match their webpage and it looks great. I should have done that in the very beginning...but I guess I learned something new today.

I haven't used Corel Paint in years but I can tell yo how to do it in PhotoShop and maybe you can take it from there.
Open your picture Take the magic wand and select everything that you want saved. Now COPY. The image you want is now on the clipboard.
In PhotoShop, I would go to FILE/NEW. I now have three choices. WHITE/BACKGROUND COLOR/ and TRANSPARENT.
Select transparent/ paste image and them save with any extension. I can now open up Corel Draw/ IMPORT and I have my image with no background.
