Just curious how various folks handle halftones when cutting vinyl. In the past I have picked a color close to the visual color of the halftone, and I have also misted white to create a tone.
But has anyone tried to cut a halftone into the vinyl? In this case it is just a simple stripe 3"x6'. How would you go about it?

i'm not sure why a simple stripe would be a halftone? is the stripe supposed to be a lighter shade of the main color? in that case, yes, you could use a lighter shade of vinyl. another option is to make the "dots into stripes". you cut many small stripes, say 1/8" wide and 1/8" apart for a 50% shade, or 1/8" wide and 1/4" apart for a 33% shade, etc). stripes are easy to weed.

if you were doing a lot of them, i'd screen print.

hey thanks Scooter.

I was just curious to see if there was something out there to be learned by what others might do when encountering halftones.

This job is a pretty simple international corporate logo consisting of Reflex blue copy with a 50% reflex blue stripe. Two simple 4x8's for north americas largest open pit gravel mine!

My regular procedure would be to visually match the halftone to a solid colour vinyl, and in this case it looks like Avery copenhagen blue is the closest to match.

So yeah I guess I was getting picky cause it looks ok, but its just not the same as a reflex halftone, which brought me back to wondering if anybody would actually cut halftones.

I know there is always more than one way to tackle a job.... and just like many of the last posts about gilding processes, seems like everybody does it just alittle different, and I think its just too cool to find a way to do something that differs from our normal routines

Tim,
Iwould probably have screenprinted the vinyl before cutting.
Then it would be bazackley like the sample.
