Has anyone else had this happen? I installed a second hard drive or slave drive and the computer will not read from it. The bios post shows both drives present and recognized but Windows Explorer will not show the drive. In other words, Windows is not seeing the drive. Any words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated along this line. One drive is 2 gig and the new drive is a 3 gig.

Roy, you didn't mention your operating system. Has the drive been formatted? Can you see it with the dos prompt? You might try going into the control panel. The add/remove hardware function will troubleshoot some devices, don't know about a hard drive. You might see something there that will be helpful. Vic G

You need to set the partition and then format it. I prefer the DOS method.
1. Goto your windows DOS prompt 2. type fdisk 3. confirm Yes to enable the large drive support 4. choose option 5 to change fixed drives 5. you should see 2 drives listed, choose number 2, the second drive which should be the new one.
It will then verify the drive and eventually take you back to the menu.
6. choose option #1 to create the DOS partition. it will probably verify again and make you confirm. It's vary important that you did indeed change fixed drives to the second drive.
once finished, exit back to the DOS prompt and then restart the system.
Once windows comes back up, the new drive should be listed, but won't be usable.
You then need to go to the dos prompt again and then type 'format d:' where d: is the new drive. (don't type the '')
once that finished, you should be able to access the new drive.

i might add. make sure the jumper in teh new drive is set to slave.. make sure teh jumper in teh old drive is set to master

Problem solved. The primary partition on the slave hard drive was toggled to off. Used DriveWorks program, toggled to on and solved the problem. Thanks everyone for your advice and suggestions. Even yours "OP"
