I was able to get my hands on some samples of signfoam 3 and am so far impressed it seams too take paint far better and seems much stronger. has anyone used it for a job yet is there a price difference?

Rich, Have you tried carving it yet? The SFIII at Mars was different than the samples I got at Mass Mayhem....and guess who didn't take a sample home !!! It didn't seem to cut as clean....I haven't used it enough to really form an opinion yet...sorry, no help here .

I did try and carve the samples I got from mars I think it was 18# I carvrd something that somewhat resembled a tree (I need more practice). being an inexperienced carver I cant fairley compare it to other hdu but it definitly takes paint better I used no primer and it still held the paint well, and seems strong wich was always a concern of mine with hdu and its comes in cool new colors

I have used some 1/2 inch SF III as pole wraps and sandblasted a couple small signs. It is stronger and took just slightly longer to work but I was using an angle grinder. But I did notice it was tougher even with a power tool. I haven't hand carved any SF III yet though. It blasted very well, also taking just slightly longer than the old stuff.
One big difference is the static is gone. The dust blows off much better with an air hose, almost totally clean. I suspect this is why your paints seem to hold better. I always had much better adhesion if I washed the dust off with water on the old SignFoam.
The word I got is that 15 pound SF III is almost as strong as 18 pound SF II. Great stuff.

Doing a 4'x5' sandblasted sign right now from SF3 15# and like Dave said, it is really close to the same as the old 18#. The dust is definately less static clingy!! Haven't blasted it yet just cut the shape but I like it a lot so far.

Been using it for about a month now. I like the way the dust is much more manageable and it fills with paint much easier. Seems stronger and smoother. I used to spray a light coat of "watered down" blockout on sf2 before applying rubber. With the sf3 I have been applying the rubber straight onto the foam. No problem with blow-off.
