I just want to let everyone know that kathy Joiner and I will be hosting a meet at her shop in Ponchatoula, LA., September 6,7,8. For more info please check out the "Future Meets" page. There will be lots of Cajun fun to go around. Sorry this is so late getting out there but we really decided to do this less than a month ago. We hope all our friends here can make it. It's guaranteed to be a great time!
You may also email us with questions if you wish.
Hope to see you all there,
R.T.

Sing louder Curtis! [Wink]

Yes folks, R.T. is right we guarantee a good time. Fellowship is one of the best things about a meet! We have a party scheduled for Saturday night. We are having a "Cajun Cafe" with gumbo, jambalaya, and lots of other South Louisiana specialties followed by a Fais Do Do. T-Boy and "The Blue Crawfish Band" will offer up some Cajun music along with your favorite oldies, some rock, country, or whatever you request!

The entire family is welcome. There is a pool here for the kids to swim. (Only if accompanied by a parent.) And lots of room to play.

If the wife isn't "into" meets, she can shop or browse in Antique City in downtown Ponchatoula. The little ones will want to stop by Old Hardhide's cage, he is our resident alligator in town. There is also Kleibert's Alligator farm to visit or the "Swamp Walk" a safe boardwalk winding through the Manchac Swamp. Also New Orleans is only 1 hr. away and so is Baton Rouge, the LA Capitol.

The motels around here are very affordable and we are working on some special Letterhead rates.

So come on down and eat, paint and be merry with us Sept. 6,7 & 8.

LAISSEZ LES BON TEMPS ROULEZ!!! (Let the good times roll)

Hay all ya'll, looks like Kathy and Artee are throwing quite the shin dig. Trust me, it will be shin deep in fun!

Every nuance of their flyer screams Southern Hospitality. I've met both of these people in person and they are wild and fun. If you live nearby and this is your first time, it's too cheap and easy for what all you walk away with! Just the friendships alone! The skills available by the "reading-glass-wearing", "applying for authentic geezer status" types are mind-boggeling to newbies, but important!

That's how we keep this glorious craft alive!

True Definition of a Dixie Letterhead:

"If you get it up over gold leaf, then click the following link, you'll get to meet 'em fer yerself!"

http://www.letterhead.com/meets/dixie2002/meet_flyer.gif

Okay, you two! Run with it, I hope you have a fabulous meet and I just wanted to put in a good word for ya! Nice job on the flyer, you make an incredible team. If I can get my work to slow down, I'm there!

(Pssst...newbies, get to any Letterhead Meet you can, sometimes when you get back, you can't hide from the money!)

(Sure, it may take a couple/few meets...but it is sooooooo worth it!)

[Cool]

RT and I were at Kathy's today. Its great. Theres plenty of room to hold a meet. A huge building to hold the meet, large areas of grassy areas if someone one wanted to camp. A nice pool and a great area to feed the masses. A great hostess. Entertainment, food, place to meet, what more could anyone ask for?..

Posted by Stan McKinnon (Member # 2316) on :

Please let me know the info on local hotel, etc. May be able to make this my "first" letterhead meet. Sounds exciting.

Hi Guys,
Glad to hear all you folks are gonna try and be there. I know this is gonna be a good one. Kathy's place is the most ideal I've ever seen for a Letterhead Meet. We should defintely have a great time. As Curtis said, there is lots of room and a great atmosphere. Plenty of room for campers. etc for anyone wanting to "camp out". A fenced area around "Margaritaville" with a swimming pool and pool house. A huge metal building with all kinda room for easels and painting or bringing a vehicle inside to trick it out. I hope we have a great turn-out and all you guys can see what "Cajun" hospitality is all about. If know much about Louisiana, you know that in South Louisiana they know how to party!!
Hoping to see ALL of you there!! [Smile]
R.T.
P.S. Stan, as soon as we get the motel info lined up we will post it here, so keep checking back.

Just to keep it up top!

The day Boudreaux died.

Boudreaux and Hebert, casualties of the oilfield bust in the 80's, decided to leave Gueydan and look for work in New Orleans. They quickly found jobs at the Dixie Brewery. They had been working only a couple of weeks when Boudreaux drowned in a beer vat. Management was very upset and asked Hebert if he would return to Gueydan to break the news to the Widow Boudreaux. Upon hearing the news, the Widow Boudreaux asked Hebert if, Boudreraux had suffered much. Hebert replied, "I don't think so, as a matter of fact, he climbed out twice to go the bathroom."

It does look as though things are going to be just "ducky" here. Thanks Pat and all.

I have some motel info together and Barb is posting it for us on Future Live Meets page.

The Closest motel to the meet is The Friendly Inn. Mention Letterhead Rate, and you get a room for $35.00. This is not a luxury motel but is VERY clean and decorated nicely for the price. There is no pool or restaurant on the property but we will have that covered right here! The phone no. is: (985)542-9939. It is located at I-12 and exit 42 on Airport Road next to the interstate.

Further down the interstate (2.5 miles)is another clean but economical choice. The Colonial Inn Of Louisiana is located at I-12 & Exit 40. It is near the Hammond Square Mall and lots of restaurants. All beds are Queen and the prices are: 1 bed $37.75 including tax and 2 beds for $42.20. Their no. is: (985)345-2953.

Also at this exit is Days Inn and Comfort Inn prices and numbers are posted on the meet page.

At I-55 exit 28 (I-55 and I-12 intersect in Hammond.) Holiday Inn, Ramada Inn (which has given a special Letterhead rate of $55.90 king or double) & Econo Lodge. More info is also on meet page.

At I-55 & exit 31 is Hampton Inn, Best Western,Executive Inn & Suites, and a Super 8. These are about 13 miles or so away from the meet. Further information on meet page.

Hope this helps as some have been asking about the area motels.

Hope to see you here!

hey kathy and RT,

this is gonna be one incredible meet, just by the folks invovled.

i met kathy at duck soup(such a gracious southern lady), i met my buddy RT for the first time at the "mazeppa muster" (go figure, a letterhead bubba from mississippi, one state west and i met him in minnesota!)
what better combination could one have?

2 great people with a whole lotta talent and conviction, bringing letterheads together.

this is gonna be a wonderful meet.

i am working on my "project" regardless if i make it or not!

kathy, i will be shipping the "sign" soon.

god bless them southern letterheads.

Kathy,
You forgot to mention to the folks from up north that some places like:
Dew Drop Inn, Wander Inn, Stumble Inn, Big Wheel
Inn, Come On Inn, and several others should not be considered hotels or motels, although several people can usually be found sleeping at the bar.

Ahh Shux, I just got them butterflies in my stomach, that only occur when there's a Letterhead meet that I can't miss! [Smile]

For those of you who haven't attended a Live Letterhead Meet, this one will be an awesome introduction!

This Dixie Bunch ROCKS!

Cher.

Just thought I would let you know that Barb has posted hotel information on the meet page.

The Friendly Inn (best buy & closest)has suggested making reservations A.S.A.P. because the meet is the weekend after Labor Day.

Things are really shaping up and the excitement around here is building!

If you have never attended a meet, come on down. We have a rather relaxed meet planned which will give you the opportunity to meet everyone and share the Letterhead spirit. You'll learn so much your head will spin! I gar-onn-teeee!

Posted by Bryan Quebodeaux (Member # 48) on :

We will sure try to attend, this would be my first meet. E-mail me with any registration procedures. What can I bring to help? Boudin? Cracklins? Tasso? Hog Head Cheese? I live in the heart of Acadiana, just let me know what to bring!

Posted by Kathy Joiner (Member # 1814) on :

Hey folks! Look at Bryan's post, we have our own genuine Letterhead Cajun!

Brought you self up here Quebodeaux. What you can do to help? Can you give a Cajun two step lesson on Saturday night? And...don't you think that if those Bamer boys can call the hogs (sou-eeeee) we can teach them to aayyyy-eeeeee? Cajun yell contest Sat. night.

Boudin sounds great. So does the rest of it.

Cajun BBC:
Beer
Boudin
Cracklins

So who has the best boudin and cracklins.

My vote for the best cracklins goes to Don's in Carencro, just past the racetrack.

Boudin is a toss up between Comeaux's and Best Stop. But my ole podner Mr. Gil said that a place out by Eunice has the best and I'm waiting for him to bring some around.

As for Beer, I'm still in the testing stages.

Hey Santo,
If you need a ride, I have room in my new pirogue.

My vote for best Boudin & Cracklins aka Gratons-(pronounced g'dah-tons- here) is from Best Stop. (Especially smoked Boudin)

Best Tasso- Richard's Cajun Country (Was owned by my wife's family)

Kathy,
I'm afraid I was born with 2 left feet. I'm 6'5" and 300lbs., that would be a sight on the dance floor!
Also, my brother who recently started working with me wants to join in on the party, I need to enquire about registering both of us. Can't wait!

Oh yes just in case you bring along family members who like to tour and to remind the yankees so they'l know. There is a swamp tour about 5 mins from my house (about 25 mins) from Kathy's place that goes into a genuine swamp complete with fishing shacks (camps), gators, coons, possums, snakes, an eagles nest, bobcats, turtles, and yes, honey trees and all the other sights to see that makes Louisiana a special visit.

Curtis... is from Slidell right on the Honey Island Swamp...Just souf of Pearl River just norf of dat big lake.. [Cool]

Hi Guys,
Thanks to everyone here that has posted. We are getting excited about the meet and I know we're gonna have a "wild" bunch because I know most of these guys personally!! (the ones that have commited anyway)OK, one thing we need to do. If you think that there MAY BE a possibility that you will be attending PLEASE let us know soon. I need to get these t-shirts printed!! I don't care if you don't come (even though I wish you would), but I don't want to not have you a t-shirt IF you do!! We need to get an idea of what sizes we need to order and yeah, I know we gotta have some XXXL's!!LOL We will have extra shirts for sale at the meet for $15 each in case anyone might decide to buy one for "the good clothes" and use the other for "the work clothes". [Smile] ....... I know......most folks here don't have "good clothes". If it ain't got paint on it you ain't workin right?
Anyway, it looks like we're gonna have a blast!! Things are starting to come together even though we really got a late start on this one. Gonna have some cool door prizes and lotsa panel jammin!! We're gonna have either an apartment fridge or a microwave to paint and we will be selling raffle tickets and some lucky "Head" will get to take it home.
OK, that's all for now. Looking forward to "passin a good time". Hope to see you all there!
R.T.

I will be painting names on the front of all meet shirts for anyone that wants such a thing. I also hope to have time to do quite few of my "Psychomodelic Panels" before the meet. Hopefully I'll have quite a few of them done beforehand. Glad all you guys are gettin excited. OH yeah, T-SHIRTS!! sizes please!!

Well there you went and said it, coonass.

There are those residents of the southwest part of the state that perfer the name Acadian.

And there are those residents of undetermined color that perfer Creole.

Many folks that live on the bayous and down river in southeast Louisiana are traditionally known as: BOOG-A-LEE. Many of the French speaking people were called "boogs" and greeted each other similiarly: "Como se va, Boog?"

But a coonass is a spot about 1/2" in diameter under a racoon's tail.

Cool Beanos Mike!!

Glad to hear that you finally talked to the "boss" and she said ya could come!! I'll have the gas and the oil, but I'll have to pick you up in the truck. The van is no more:( It's actually in better hands. I sold it to someone that treats it like it's a Mercedes!!

OK guys, you heard the news, MIKE MEYER/SIGNPAINTER, Mazeppa,MN has threatened to be in Ponchatoula!! The place will never be the same!! You gotta be there!

Now is the time............SHIRTS? SIZES? c'mon!!

See ya...............

I've heard about & read about many meets this past year, but for some reason, this is the one making me feel like I'm really missing a good thing I would have liked to be a part of.
Between remodeling a new home & getting married next month, Sept is too soon to be travelling, but one of these days I will look forward to another meet that feels like I'm supposed to be there. Have a great time Kathy & R.T. as I'm sure you & everyone else will.

Sorry Santo but I am very uneducated when it comes to the Cajun stuff, that's why I'm coming down! I'll call ya whatever you want me to, just don't call me late for the Cajun Chow!

Hey Doug, why not get married at the meet? You won't have to pay for a band, there's already food...I'm sure they could find an English speaking Justice of the peace, (Mark Fair could do the ceremony as well!)

R.T., could you make the truck a TOW truck? Let's go to a junk yard and buy a late 60's Ford Galaxie like the one Burt Reynolds drove in "Gator" , stripe it then plunge it in the swamp! (Just tryin to fit in!)

What else should I prepare for Santo?

No ice rinks there so I gots ta do sumptin!

Looks like we have work beaucoup to do now. Started on the chopper pad this morning, but the "Coonass Militia" (Louisiana Air National Guard)showed up and stopped all work. They said a Bamer Boy and a Yankee must have special clearance before entering Louisiana air space.

Doug, congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Yes, we can do a ceremony here! (Santo, don't tell him about the traditional Chiverie (sp?)!

Sonny, glad you're coming! Can't think of anything right now except hog-tieing John Smith and dragging him down with ya!

Joe, without you here we don't have a carver to chop onions and peel garlic. Look out Cheryl! Thanks for the door prizes.

This is beginning to feel like a family reunion. Seeing friends and meeting new ones.

Mike, you just heard part of one of the oldest coonass replies in the book.
One thing you had better be prepared for is to help ice down some liquid refreshment. I was talking to Kathy about iceing the drinks. She and R.T. have something in mind already.
The Galexie gave up the ghost, recently, along with all forward gears. She got me home though. I drove it reverse 12 - 10 miles. No problem execpt for getting pulled over for running that stop sign.

i don't know of anyone who gets stereotyped more than Southerners. They can dish it up and serve it out too! Case in point: Private Mark Fair, he's going to make a fine soldier one of these days, he's just misunderstood too many times. As some of you know, you don't mess with junkyard dogs and you don't get in Pvt. Fair's case, he'll rip yo head off! That's the guy I want on my side! I enjoy the South, everytime I been there it's been great! That's why I'm going to CCCCCCC KATMANDU! I've applied for my Yankee Visa in Atlanta. Just waiting for General Jef Davis to sign it.

You know what this means now don't cha?
This means that all you Dixie Letterheads gotta come up to Minnesota in the dead of Winter and live life MY way for a weekend!

Can you see Mark Fair on a Snowmobile?
How bout R.T. on Hockey Skates?

Pvt. Fair, ya got it, I'm firin'up my trusty ol' diesel powered telephone & see what I can do for ya! Wish I could make the show (last time I saw mr. coe he was playin' at Gilly's in Baytown near Houston....turned out to be about a 4 day night when we wound up in the middle of Mardi Gras in New Orleans with...uhhh, better tell ya 'bout that later) Anyway, don't worry about the 30% mark-up, I'll put you in 'em at my cost, just take care of the FedEx & oh yeah, the handling fee [Big Grin] You'll have pair #4 (Alton & Si are in line ahead of you but I'm sure they won't mind if we slip you in a rush order)

Si, Glad to see you're gonna be there to represent Kalipornia and maybe your right about eatin' reptiles (do they really Bar-B-Q gator?) [Confused]

Santo, I thought coonass was promounced "Boog A Lee", now do I have that right or do I need to sign-up for the Remedial Cajun workshop with Sgt. Meyer? And would ya please tell him that he doesn't really need a Visa because you'll also take MasterCard or American Express??

Yes Chris, we really do BBQ gator. We also have Alligator Sauce Piquant, Gator head cheese, Gator Stew, Fried Gator. The meat is beautiful.

We also eat Nutria, crawfish (mudbugs),turtle, choupique, gar, or anything that doesn't eat us first.

If you, Mark and Si are showing up in "Shoots", then Santo, Curtis, R.T.,Brousard, Quebedeaux and myself are gonna have to break out the old "Cajun Reboks"!

O.K. now you Cajun Cowboys, don't tell what they are, we'll just keep em guessing till they get here, yeh?

BTW Chris, the best horsemen aroun dese part be Cajun. There is actually a rodeo arena in the Wal-Mart parking lot in one of the S.W. LA towns.

Si, thanks for the offer. A little Calipornia sunshine would be great. If we think of something else we'll let you know.

My son, Leo, has some blue "Cajun Reboks." He uses them all the time, riding his bike or scooter. I threw mine away years ago.

Yea, believe it or not, I've got some of those cajun reeboks, I bought them when I drove concrete trucks. They are the white rubber boots that are worn a lot in a small town not far from here that processes a lot of shrimp, the town is called Delcambre (pronounced delcalm) they call'em Delcambre Reeboks.

Looks like this is gonna be one hell of a meet. Can't wait!

AAAAiiiieeeeee!! We gonna have some fun yeah!!
Mark Yearwood, I will be happy to reserve a shirt for you and too bad you just can't come get it.

Ok guys, one of the biggest problems we are coming across is getting enough panels for everyone. Since Kathy and I are both small, low volume shops, we don't carry a lot of clout with the bigger suppliers. So, if you know any supplier that would donate a few 18x24 or 12x18 aluminum blanks to us , please let me know. I have a body shop that will paint some for me if I can just get some.

Time is gettin short and things are starting to come together. Kathy and I are on the phone every day or so trying to make sure we have everything covered. Our main concern is that everyone, first and foremost, have a good time and walk away from here with a better feeling about themselves knowing that they learned something. Secondly, that everyone will have door prizes, etc. to take home with them. We will have a fridge to paint and raffle as we did at Duck Soup and a couple of the other meets. That tradition started with the Australian meets and everbody seems to enjoy it. Don Coplen is now the proud owner of the awesome fridge that Rod did at Duck Soup last year.We are getting quite a bit of stuff in from suppliers for door prizes, etc. and hopefully more is on the way.

Kathy and I have talked a lot about things that might go on at the meet. Let's just say that we're gonna "pass a good time"!!

I need more shirt sizes from folks that haven't sent them to me. Send 'em in so we can get an idea of what we need. Time waits for no man.........or woman......or even signpainters like you!

Thanks to all you guys here that have posted and I hope that we'll have a meet to remember for a long time. Neither Kathy or I have ever hosted a meet before , so be kind. [Smile]

See ya,
R.T.

Well Roger, 'seein's ya got me beat, I'll let y'all tell em.

Posted by Kathy Joiner (Member # 1814) on :

Don we have named it "Coupe du Main" it translates to "A Stroke Of The Hand." It is a Cajun Custom to lend a hand to friends and neighbors in need. When the work is done, everyone is there, so they have an excuse to have food and fun!

The Cajun language is a bit like Spanish in that it depends upon where you are as to how it translates. So Roger, who knows, it could mean "Southern Exposure" or worse somewhere in Louisiana!

Also Roger we would like to thank you for your support.

Come on down folks! We have Rapid Tac!

Hey Kathy, & R.T. looking like a really good time is coming your way. I know in my earlier tumbleweed days I would not have considered resisting the inclination to make it happen for myself.

Thanks also for the offer to roll my celebratin' plans into the mix. Being a 1 sign-addict family I will stick with the current plan for Linda's sake. (& mine in the end)

I would also like to know if you will be open to selling shirts (XL)to those of us only there in spirit? I am sure your to-do list is too long to mess with that now, but if you print any over-runs I think the 88 hits on this thread is a good indication, that we would buy them.

I just found out my ticket I had for the Duck Meet is still valid till Sept. Now I'm thinking of using the ticket and pay the balance to head out to New Orleans. Which is the best way to fly in to N.O. or to Baton Rouge? If I can make it, is there anyone want to split a room? And is there anyone from either area that I can hitch a ride with to the meet? On my map looks like and hour or so from New Orleans. Let me know, sounds very interesting!

Posted by Santo (Member # 411) on :

Cisco, you make the flight arrangements and get here, and we'll get you to the meet and hang a hammock up for you between 2 tall trees. You make the call New Orleans or Baton Rouge, dos que tres.

These examples should serve as a small tutorial on the local dialect, know as Yat.

Id don madda": It doesn't matter; or, it is not important.

"Yea, you right": You are right. A phrase that implies agreement.

"Ova deah": Over there. Often mumbled when pointing in a direction.

"Watchyadoin?": What are you doing? (Drinkin' a dixie, watchin' the Aints.)

"Yall be good now": a common goodbye phrase when leaving a gathering

"Who'dat?": Who's that? Made famous with "Who'dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?"

"Wowdee": a relatively new word which young black men often refer to each other with; homeboy; "g"

"Lassiez le bom temps roule!": French for "Let the good times roll!"

"Catchalayta": See you later

"Mawnin": good morning; or, come on in

"Ah-ee": the Cajun version of "yee-ha"

"Aint nuttin gonna change!": Louisiana will always be a corrupt, poor hellhole.

One other ting:

Cisco, you may want to come into the New Orleans airport instead of Baton Rouge. The airport is actually in Kenner, LA which is west of N.O. It is only 47 miles from my house via I-55 through the Manchac Swamp.

As soon as you make arrangements let Santo, R.T. or myself know and we will get you here.

Don't worry, we gone took care of ya Southern Style!

They keep talking about West Nile Virus in Louisiana. Better take the mosquito repellant. Make sure it contains DEET.

Chris, thanks for the compliments, I'm hoping that I can make it to this one. I'll post it when I have my confirmation. But it's a close 97% of a go.

Pat, amigo! hey yeah it will be a trip to see you again I look forward to it, Kathy, and R.T. also the rest of the southern folks out your way.

Amy, Yeah I also heard about that little skeeter, looks like he's doing some serious damage. I will take my spray and eat plenty of garlic. Keeps even the fleas away. Or I might have to find me a new Mojo, that will keep them lousy suckers away from me. I remember they took a liking to me when I was in the south. Maybe Bertha got rid of some of them bas*ards.

Other then that, I remember New Orleans as a very interesting fun place. I was there 3 times in '98. Even caught me this "Red Fish"

I got nothing much to add other this post makes 100.
As far a s the skeeters go, the spray crews are out every night and the groups in the day are eliminating areas where mosquitoes nest. We have been hot and dry like most of the country, but recent rains have aided the mosquitoe population. The efforts now will result in a lower mosquito population soon.

Hell, there's skeeter everywhere... even in alaska. But "we" the locals know that a few skeeters reports in the money hungary media won't bother us. And we don't panic over a few over blown media reports of some exotic sickness. Have no fear. "We" do this "skeeter killin" every year as its one of our customs. West nile is in lots of other states too.

Im beginning to hate CNN. They tend to over play some reports when they got nothing else after which to chase and bark.

Did you see the report of the X playboy model? She was slurring and braggin about doing her latest porno movie with 2 girls, 7 men and a dog. Looked like she was goona fall out at any second.

Lookit the crop circle rage on CNN. Lookit the couger attack up in the North as reported on CNN has milked for the past 4 days..

Hell people in California have lived with that for years and take precautions against big cats like we do against the mighty skeeter. In fact i think we should have an open season on skeeters. Issue points and have a spot in the record books for the skeeter with the longest straw.

I wonder when jerry springer will pop out and be a CNN reporter.

Skeeters and west nile.. nutin more than the latest cash cow that CNN is milking..

I would like to offer a little information on the West Nile Virus scare here in Louisiana.

There have been four deaths in the state. The youngest was a 53 year old man with health problems. The others were 72, 75, and 83. There have been a few local cases reported with no deaths and only 1 was kept in the hospital.

Only 1% of the people who are bitten by an infected mosquito will become sick enough to show any symptoms at all. Very few develop encephalitis due to contracting WNV.

The virus has spread to 34 states, not just Louisiana. Our Governor declared a state of emergency only because he hopes to get federal funding for mosquito control. In 2000 New York and New Jersey each got $5 million. New York had the worst outbreak in the US in 1999.

The mosquitoes have not been nearly as bad this year as in the past 3 years. With the news of the virus mosquito control has taken full measure. I don't expect any real problem.

Is precaution a good idea? Yes. I have been spraying and we are going to use citronella candles and torches as we always do here. Bring mosquito repellant, it is uncomfortable to be bitten. I HATE skeeter bites.

However, if we should feel that having a meet here would endanger guests any more than anywhere else in the US, we will either cancel or inform you that you would be in danger.

Mike, Santo has done you good, man! When I need a quick get-a-way my favorite place is Natchez, MS. The old town is like walking into the past. I am not afraid to walk the streets alone after dark. The old plantations there are numerous and fantastic. Natchez under the hill is a must. Dinner at the Natchez Eola Hotel is a great culinary experience, yet affordable. Down River is St. Francisville, LA nice plantations there also.

On second thought don't go to Natchez, you won't want to leave to come to the meet! My oldest grand-daughter and I get depressed every time we leave there.

Hi guys,

I'm just posting to tell you guys that things are looking great for the meet so far. We have quite a few door prizes to give away and will be raffling a small fridge that is to be painted at the meet. Some lucky person will get to take it home with them!

I talked to Kathy tonight..(Friday)8/9/02 and I'll be going down to start buliding easels and the like tomorrow. Curtis Hammond has agreed to pitch in and I hope we can get quite a bit done towards having everthing ready for a great meet!

Please get your registration in or at least let us know if you will be attending. We need shirt sizes and shirt orders for those attending and those that might just want a shirt. The shirts are $15 plus shipping for anyone that can't attend and extra shirts for those in attendance will be $15. Get those sizes to me!! I hope to get with the printer sometime next week to get this going.

Looking forward to seeing all my old Buddies and meeting some new ones!!

Have fun,
R.T.

Hey RT,

Put me down for a large. Still thinking I might be able to make it, but I'll take a shirt either way.

I am trying to get things together for my meet in Oct. and I have discovered that as far as workload, planning to have a meet brings in even more business than planning to attend one.

Mike, all kilts worn here must be purple, green, and gold. That is the official cajun tartan plaid! (Mardi Gras colors) I am curious as to why so many of us are of Scottish descent, is there Scotch in the 1-Shot formula?

Motels are listed on the Future live meet page. The friendly Inn is closest to the meet and less than $40.00 per night for a nice clean room. Reservations highly recommended as they stay fairly well booked.

See ya soon!

Hi guys,
Well I just rolled in from Kathy's place and things are getting better all the time. I think we have more than enough room for everybody to have their own little space. Curtis and I helped Kathy build two long 16' easels and a number of other assorted easels and tables. Looks like we're in for a good time. Their will be plenty of room for anyone that would like to camp on site. Please see the flyer for Coupe du Main on the future meets page if you don't know what I'm talking about. [Smile]
Mark Fair......I forgot to answer your question as to what the shirts will look like. They will have the logo from the flyer printed on the back. Some people have asked for pocket t-shirts. Sorry guys, but we're just not gonna be able to do that. I really wanted to but it's gonna be a little cost prohibitive. They (the t-shirt companies) are proud of their pockets!! Just to keep things simple and let Kathy and I keep what hair we have on our heads, we won't have pocket t's.
Ok, any of you that MIGHT be coming to the meet, BUT are NOT SURE.........tell us that you MIGHT be here so we can allow for shirts for everybody. We will have extras, but we wanna make sure everybody gets at least one.
Looking forward to having the best meet South Louisiana has ever had!! [Smile]
See yas,
R.T.

Nothing like a Letterhead Meet in the South...friendliest people on the planet! A few years ago, Pat King gave me a book titled "How to Speak Southern"...I'll have to dig it up, along with a few French words we use up here in Maine, and send it to Cisco.

Your brother from another mother,

John

PS I know, RT, your father was never in Maine

Posted by Mark Perkins (Member # 296) on :

Gosh, you guys know where Eunice is. I'm impressed LOL Yes Kathy, Ken is still the mayor, and running for re-electin so there are WAY too many smiley faces round town at the moment. You have been to the Liberty Theater? I can bring a Wayne Toups CD to the meet if you like in case the band doesn't show he he he

Everytime I think about this Louisiana Meet, I can't help but think of the imfamous "POGO" cartoon by Walt Kelly! I got me an idea..............

Posted by Kathy Joiner (Member # 1814) on :

Oh oh, danger...Mike Meyer is thinking! Mmmmm pogo? Can't wait to see this one.

Mark P. Brought you self and Wayne Toups CD over here. We will have music going in the easel area all weekend. We have to introduce them to some Swamp Pop!

John that book sounds very interesting. Although I can speak southern style but it's from "south of the border." One thing I noticed when I was traveling thru the south in '98, was once I passed Texas, I didn't see very many Mexican people, Mississippi was a trip when I drove thru there, I told RT about it. Even Birmingham was a great experience, but thanks to P-King I felt like I was at home.
I know this meet will be one of the great ones!
16 days to go and counting...

Posted by mike meyer (Member # 542) on :

Are ya ready Kathy? How bout you RT? I just put 1500 miles on my Astro Van, two weeks back here in Mazeppa then I'm "HEADIN'" for You!

We'll keep the fever going from MARS!

Later!!

The "FAMOUS" King Brothers will be arriving on the 5th(pm)
Sorry, no Duckette this time as she will be helping with the NEW grand babies that weekend.

King Brothers???? Ya mean there's more than one of ya??

[Smile] [Smile] [Smile] [Smile]

Scary thought, huh Si?

Posted by Santo (Member # 411) on :

If Rich and Good looking were the other two options for the King Bros., I guess 1 out of 3 ain't bad.

Mike, I only count 10 days to go.

Cisco, you're about to learn how to speak spanish with a cajun accent.

Hey!
I guess I'm as ready as I'm gonna get Mike!!

Guys, we still have no guarantee from any supplier that we will have panels. If you have any panels you can bring please do. We will have some, but we want to make sure we have enough. Otherwise, there are plenty of things we can paint on at Kathy's. [Wink]

Things are coming together and I can't wait to see you guys and hear the stories from Mars!!

See ya shortly,
R.T.

Well like the saying goes, the check is in the mail. . . but mine really is! Booked our suite at the Colonial Inn (ok well it's a room. . I don't think they have suites) but we are all set to go. We'll be coming on friday and saturday.

I can't wait to meet all the sign heros that will be there, it's like going to the oscars or something, maybe yall ought to put a red carpet out so the guests can walk out of the limos and stuff. [Smile]

Gonna be fun, looking forward to finally meeting all of you.

Orale y buenos dias "y-all" just came by to hollar at you. Where's the gator tacos?

Posted by Santo (Member # 411) on :

Orale, Cisco. The gator tacos will have to be fresh, so we are waiting for you to arrive to start the hunt. What's your preference? Do you want to flush the gator out of his hole with the stick or do you want to wade in the water and hit him in the head with the hammer?

Posted by FranCisco Vargas (Member # 145) on :

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH That's funny. I say we flush em out, then hit em with a long handle big hammer. You go first and I'll be behind you with the hammer. Wear something red, because that's how we catch frogs over here. So it's sort of the same thing, que no? [Eek!]

Well yall...time is getting short for the Coupe du Main meet. Hope everybody has all their work caught up and plans made to take off early and be on the way to a good letterhead time.
Roger and I are leaving Thursday driving on I10 most of the way.
Better go if I want to finish my panel that I am just starting.
See yall there!
Judy & Roger

Hey Judy! I might make the trek to Radium Springs to visit my other Uncle after Coupe du Main....is it still there? Are you bringing Boiled Peanuts? Oh Goody!

Posted by Judy Pate (Member # 237) on :

Yes Mike, Radium Springs is still here. That will be great for you to get to visit your uncle and of course you will come by to visit us. Gotta get boiled peanuts. Let me see a show of hands...who all wants some south Georgia boiled peanuts? Sorry haven't had time to get any peanut brittle made this time.
Judy

Judy,

Hope your trip doesn't take too long, Roger may have them little boogers eaten, by the time ya get to the meet.

I'm hoping to make a stop in the Florida Panhandle, to visit a friend who distributes boiled peanuts. If they have extra's at the house, I'll be bringing some of the spicy ones! mmmmmmmm!

See y'all there!

Cher.
