Hi Everyone, I purchased a used Roland Camm 1 in the spring. I have the basic SignLab package which I won at Letterheads in Cornwall last year. Signlab is just great to work with. But I have a problem. Say I have some copy 6" tall and about 80" wide. The plotter will cut about 3/4 of the way across and then quit. The numbers for the x & y keep going, but the cutter hesitates. Also, I can't seem to get it to cut anything higher than about 5" characters or it turns into 2 tiles. I have tried absolutely everything. Have read both books and reset everything. But I know I must be doing one small thing incorrectly. Called Roland and Signlab and did not get a response. Anyone use these systems together, had this problem? Please help! I am so glad that I am able to hand-letter because all this technology is driving me bonkers! Thanks, Heather

Hi Heather, Most likely SignLab does not know the material size you are cutting from. Go to plotter setup and click on get page size. You can also enter the material size manually.

heather what model cam one do you have I had a similar problem with my pnc1210 and I had to change the driver to a cm300 driver it seemed to fix it hope this helps

Ralph, I tried what you said with my program and it worked! Thanks so much! Now if I could just get the cutter to cut the whole way across the layout. Tonight cut something 24" wide and the cutter didn't cut the last inch or so of the right edge, including the weed border. I had allowed for a 26" page width. Ahhh such is life! Makes things real interesting.

Hi Heather,
I don't have a Camm1, but I do use Signlab with my Summa...I almost always add about 4" in length to my material size when I cut because the plotter doesn't start measuring at the exact edge of the vinyl (let's say you have a graphic that is 18" x 24"). Go to the plotter setup page, and you can either hit the 'get page size' button (which I'll tell you now tells you that you have a tad more space than you actually do) or you can type in your own sizes in the boxes. I'd set my material size to 24" (width of vinyl) x 28" (length of vinyl). My Summa cutter has an actual cutting width of about 13" on a 15" roll and about 22.75" on a 24" roll.(But, enter the exact width of your material..just be aware that your actual width will be slightly less, so keep that in mind with your text or graphic). The length can be set at whatever you want....just make sure you have allowed for that extra few inches over the actual length of your text or graphic that the material needs to have when it runs forward and back.

I also run signlab with a camm-1. I would try going back to the plotter setup screen and check the boxes that show x and y page size. When you hit "get page size" it will automatically measure the width of vinyl you have and your software won't cut any bigger than that without tiling (as Ralph said) You can set the length to an unlimited amount; it sounds like you have your length set too short, and your software thinks the vinyl has run out. My length is always set to 984.172 inches (I think that is the default setting). Also, make sure your dip switches are correct. If you make any changes to the switches, you have to turn the machine off before the changes will take effect.

Heather..If you have a 24" Camm 1 (probably a PNC 1100??) then you have to realize that it will only cut to a maximum of 22.99" in width. This is a default setting that cannot be increased. It is the allowance of 1.01" for the pinch rollers (.5" on each side. You can set your page size to anything you want in your software but the Camm 1 will NOT cut anything wider/taller than 22.99" without tiling.
