has anyone else been experiencing any failures with the 220 series?
I just saw a truck we did 2 years ago, the vinyl has " chipped" in certain areas.
also we had another customer claim the the dark magenta we applied to his van has almost turned white in less than 3 years
Yes i do have a call into Gerber, and I am going to work with 3m on this but I just wanted to see if anyone else has had these problems. for almost 10 years I have exclusively used this product with NO failures. Is this a new thing coming or have I just been spared the norm?

I had a conversation with a outside salesman from Hart today and we talked about Gerber and #M products, Gerber has been THE pioneer in the biz since the 4B, which are still running at 20 years old all over the place. The routers are the best, the edge was the first printer availble to the average sign shop. There is no question Gerber makes quality products. the vinyl is made by 3M... 3m! they make great quality products too! This is where he told me that 3M DOES NOT make the adhiesive on their vinyl. but I guess its hear-say by now. Posted by Bob Rochon (Member # 30) on :

The " chipping" i saw yesterday was in the vinyl itself, the adhesive was still on the truck. I'm figuring the customer pressure washed the truck, it is the only truck in his fleet that this happened on. I had another customer this happened on that also pressure washes his trucks.
What bothers me is that is chips like it was brittle!
I guess after 10 years to have only 3 complaints is good.

Hey Bob, If you pressure wash to close vinyl will chip away or when it is really cold, any vinyl gets brittle, and can shatter or chip, like you say, I would reccomend them sparing farther away and only in a warmer time of day. I never heard of 3M vinyl fading, that would concern me more. Tell us how 3M handles it. Rick

ND GRAPHICS sells a tonne of Gerber/3M 220 Series Scotchcal across Canada and I can confirm that we haven't heard a single complaint of this nature.
