Don't move to Pennsylvania either!!! We are, I swear, the "Sign Belt". At the rate shops are opening around here, I'm gonna have to move to Seatle if I ever want my own business!

Just kidding about SEATTLE.....DONT GO THERE EITHER....Cheryl will boil me alive! [Eek!]

Don't move to Nashville either!

Everybody that's trying to make it in the music biz is also moonlighting in the design & sign business. Seriously!

There are more vinyl cutters in Middle Tennessee than you can shake a stick at.

Come visit and leave your money but just don't stay long. eh....eh....eh....

In reality, there are more sign shops opening in whatever city you live in or move to. It seems that making signs is easier then using common sense in almost all that I've seen.

I myself have considered Arizona, but there are too many wackos to contend with.

You're all welcome in Saskatchewan, we need more people here!
Just bring your snow boots and stay at least 50
miles away from my place (you can come visit though)

Hey Bob, I was born in Arizona and I think I may move back there. I am thinking about opening a Barber Shop/Sign Shop. I'll just have to get my Barbers Permit first. HA!HA! Just kiddin' I sometimes do get tired of Georgia but I've got too much invested to move but you never know. The Portland Oregon area is supposed to be nice, be hard to move that far away though. [Cool]

Hey Bob,
I have been in and slept in all 48 cont. states when I drove a big truck over the road, when I got the 48th i decided just whare I was going to move to next..... Arizona!!!!
I like Tucson the best ( we have a good friend that lives there) second choice would probably be Lake Havasah(sp?) followed by Phoenix.
Of course I would want to live on the outskirts, close enough to get to things and far enough to get away from things [Smile]

Good News is Bob, I won't be moving till Penny and I have no parents left around here. I can't get Penny to move to the other side of town from her mom. Hopefully we won't move for a long time!!!!!!!!!!

Really Good News, I am retired so I won't be opening a "New" shop in the area.........hehehehehe

GEEEZ, I GUESS EVERYBODY THAT ISN'T MOVING TO SEATTLE IS COMING TO ARIZONA......TIME TO MOVE TO FIJI! [Eek!]
Hey Joey, I've trained myself to become one o them 'wackos' so I can fit in!

I dunno, there's always four or five folks that come on here in regards to slow times and say they are always covered up and they have no "serious" competition nor do they worry about competition. I say let's do a search on the subject, write down their names and locations and we all move there [Smile]

George,

I was not one of those guys that goes on about how dang busy they are. Nope... wasn't me. I don't have enough work. Yeah, that's it. Too slow here.

It was Boone. I swear it was... Honest and truly... Wait... maybe it was Timmerman... or Dave Wright... but then again, who wants to move to Detroit? [Wink]

Have a great one!

Well I am busier than sh*t with this roof. So get on over and help.

If you're gonna move, go to a place that
#1 has NO chamber of commerce
#2 has NO WAL-MART

Hey George, I am busy for what my shop is, I am a one man and his wife sometimes, shop in a trailer (low overhead). If I had to start hiring any employees or expand, I'd probably go bust. I ain't gettin rich, just makin' it. I myself don't want to get to the point where I have to start hiring folks off of the street, been there done that (not in signs) and NO MORE! I want and hope to keep a good steady flow of work coming in, just enough for me and my wife and the occasional buddy/releative to do and so far, it's been doing it, at least the past month or so. Before that, I was feeling a bit doomed myself and I even posted, I beleive here almost the same question that Wayne did (S L O W). I beleive every area just has it's spurts and bad times. When all you guys are busy, I'll probably be dead and cussing on this board about it again. I just went full time sign making in January or so, so I still haven't gotten a good feel for the way it'll be here. Several other shops near me are also doing petty good but when I was slow, so were they. I remember about 2 months or so ago, the company who deleviers to us (we are a rural route so only one does) didn't even stop at half of their stops each week, that is bad. [Cool]

Ya'll just stay away from Arizona, there's nowhere decent to live at all.. [Smile]

Got overcrowding, traffic and idiots in Phoenix and Tucson..

It hits 120 here (lake havasu) in the summer..

Ya end up with gobs of snow up in those mountains around Bob (yuck who moves to AZ for snow??)..

and any other town is just some desolate hole in the dirt..

Stay away, FAR AWAY!

[Smile]

That settles it Bob...we're moving to "Preskit"...and since I'm moving I might turn a few of you onto a nice little place in Colorado that just lost a sign shop [Smile] . Always did fancy Preskit until the grumps and wannabe wacko's started moving in [Smile]
Mikie...you can keep Havasu...it's all yours buddy (but can you keep the nice lake sunset pics coming to me?)
Troy, Az is a great place to retire to...keep it in mind [Smile] I'll even go fishin with ya [Wink]

Bob,
If I could figure out how to make money doing signs in the winter months (when all the sidewalks roll up and everyone goes into hibernation)I'd stay right there too [Smile] It's "home" no other place like it...guess I'll just have to retire there one of these days (have a great house/shop...as long as I live & work somewhere else half the year to keep the payments up [Wink] )Yup, we're Az bound for the winter again.
Karen

I guess all of us that live in "snow country", should put together a mobile sign shop and head to Arizonia for the winter. I'm gonna put mine in a motorhome, so I can take my boat with me. I think I'll head to Havasu and do bootleg jetski graphics, real cheap! [Smile] [Razz]

Hey Eric,

I got a CD for you to take on your Arizona jaunt! Hahahahahahahahaha! [Wink]

Awwww come on Karen, you bring an old VW down and I'll show ya some new dirt roads perfect for driving like a maniac. [Smile]

Always busy, no competition, high prices.
But the sharks, centipedes, scorpions, earthquakes & volcanos mess up a good thing, so I'm sure no one would really be interested in heading this way anyway. Even Troy figures when you seen 48, you seen 'em all!

Posted by Mike Pipes (Member # 1573) on :

oh yeah, we supposedly have scorpions and rattlesnakes here in the desert but oddly enough, after 3 years living here and hiking just about everywhere, I've never seen either one. I hear scorpions like to hide in your shoes.

Posted by Troy Haas (Member # 472) on :

Doug,
I tried to get the big truck out your way, but I couldn't hold my breath very long and kept having to turn around [Eek!]

Posted by John Thompson (Member # 2750) on :

Hey Jimmy, I've got an idea! We can all move to Commerce and form a sign makers mafia. If somebody won't join, will off 'em. We can then get prices like $500 for an 18 X 24 coro sign and if they (our customers) won't buy 'em, will off them too!!! We can make a few trips to those places like ?ast Signs and bully them out too. You could be the Godfather and I'll be a hitman!!!! HA!HA! If Bob won't join, will off him too!!!! HA!HA!HA!HA! Just Kiddin' Bob, you could be the next in line to be the Godfather. [Razz]

Hey Mikie [Smile]

I'm sure the '70 VW bug I left in Havasu back in '73 is still roaming around the washes. And, considering you are a newcomer there (relatively speaking..I lived there BEFORE the "bridge")(oh, yeah, you weren't born yet [Wink] !) I'll bet you would have really enjoyed the OLD road in from the interstate. I missed one of those reverse banked curves once at about 55 and ended up way out in the wash! It was a blast [Big Grin] ...but my nieces who were with me at the time ratted me out to my brother who wasn't too amused...go figure...he's the one that taught me to drive like that!
I actually have lots of fond memories of Havasu up until I married my ex there...go figure that too [Wink]

I'll make it over ta see ya sometime

Karen

Karen, funny enough, I went to the beach this afternoon and went walkin around back in some thickets and what did I see?? Well, there's an old rusted out gutted out VW Beetle starin' back at me! [Smile] I was lookin at it thinkin' "Hmm, this could be a fun welding project for a metal sculpture." [Smile]

It wasnt there last year though, guess somebody decided to dump this piece of crap down on the most sought-after beach in town! [Mad]

I found some pictures I took of the building of the LONDON BRIDGE....takes me back to snapping days on the COLORADO!

Posted by Karen Stein (Member # 241) on :

Lol Mike...I have this vision of a calvinish Stickerpimp peeing on an old rusted out vdub..back there in the thickets along the beach [Wink]

Yup, quite a sight to see,eh Bob? YOU know what a trip the old road into Hauasu was like [Smile] I used to see how fast I could make it into Desert Hills from the Hwy...then work to break the record ;)I worked for Mayflower as a household goods packer (now that's one hot job there....usually the air had been shut off by the time I came along to pack stuff up [Frown] )and taught gymnastics for the Havasu Tumblebugs. The Tumblebug kids used to sell tamales under the Bridge during LB Days...yup, there were some good times to remember [Smile]

I actually did a window for DON LAUGHLIN when LAUGHLIN was just a CAFE. Also repainted a sign at HAVASU CITY.....just a gas station then....about a mile north of where the bridge is now. There was no lake....just the COLORADO from old BULLHEAD down to PARKER. Just bad 2-lane blacktop!.....and tons of faded repaints!
