I've got an Olympus D-360L. Had it for over 2 years now. Paid $299 for it and just saw ads with the newer model for just over 200 bucks. 1.3 Megapixel, 2X zoom. PERFECT little shop camera. Bought 4 Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries from Radio Shack with Charger for another 20 bucks. And a $6 case from Wal-Mart.

We've had 2 Sony Mavica cameras, and couldn't be happier. The nicest feature is that they record on to either a standard 3-1/2 floppy disk, or a disk adapter with a Sony Memory stick. I think they are down in price ( some models below 500?)
Also, Nikon's little compact digital is pretty amazing as far as quality, and below 1000
