Is dibond a finished product or does it need to be painted....?

Hey Mike,
I have a sample of Dibond that is white, I think that is how it comes in the simplest form, not sure if it comes in other colors (it does come in colors) its paintable and vinylable.

I use Dibond every day.. it's a great product as is, or you can paint it with 1shot or any good quality oil paint. Also it comes in colors as well, and the best part is that you can buy it multi colored... that is one side can be yellow, the other side red, it has a few different combinations like that... Great Product!

Nudo makes a product very similar to Dibond called "poly metal". I can get it from AlumaPanel in 3mm ($98.50/sheet) and 6mm thickness ($137.85/sheet). Th aluminum on it is .020

Dibond comes in white, blue, red, black, and now with a brushed alumimum finish. the colors have color one side and white on the other. i used some of the blue (dark or "brilliant" blue), cut it to shape, stuck on some Gemini letters and striped the border -- sign was done in 1 hour, charged $650 (2'x8') -- easy money!
i'm going to try some tranparent vinyl over the brushed aluminum some day -- i think that might create an interesting effect, similar to a 2-stage paint (or else it will look like hell!)

I would love to try Dibond but no one around here sells it. I don't think paying to truck one sheet here is worth the hassle. Looks like it would be good stuff though. Seems more rigid and durable than Alumalite plus it wont have cruddy looking edges.
The brushed aluminum is not recommeneded for outdoor use.

I like diBond a lot better than alumalite. However, I wouldn't say it is necesarrily more rigid than alumalite. All those corrugations make for a more rigid structure than the straight lamination of dibond. The alumalite seems a lot lighter to me though.

My brotherinlaw uses a product that is exactly like Dibond to do the metal siding work on buildings. He does the Burgandy on Circuit city's, the blue on the new Honda dealerships and a lots of malls and shopping centers. I don't know who it is made by but they use a router to make grooves in one side and make just about any kind of bend even almost circulars. It is wicked stuff and obviously lasts a long time or else the big comapnies wouldn't use it for their exteriors. Posted by cheryl nordby (Member # 1100) on :
