..photos on a sign.
I'm talking about the pictures used on digitally printed billboard with pic of every insurance, car, and financial saleman seen occupying space on these signs. Is it ego or a bid for a personal touch. It reminds me of the "Put this man to work" theme.

Santo, I don't know what each individual's motive is. But in my opinion it doesn't personify class. It reminds me of the attorneys and physicians who carry full page in the yellow pages including a photo of themselves.

My opinion is; Worthless.

It's a phenomenon called "Pride of Authorship". In a hierarchy where the order gets passed along from one office chair individual to another to approve/disapprove the new (sign, order, shipment, whatever) each person wants to make his worth show up. Very seldom do they say "Let's eliminate about 90% of this crap", instead they ADD their mark. They do it all day long on memos and stuff, it's considered "Padding the Bill", and it makes for Billable Hours. Then when they drive by the sign they can point to it with pride and say "I helped design that". Look Honey - see those 4 phone numbers? The sign guy only wanted to put one up there. Ha!"

Well, whadda we know?

Even though we realize the value of sign advertising, most people do not. Corporations allow the Dweebs to express their "Creativity" on this harmless outlet. The more people involved, the bigger the committee. Imagine working for Disneyland with 400 "Art Directors". Read; Nephews.

A horse designed by a committee is a --- Giraffe!
And a sign designed by a large corporation is usually a Park-'n'-Read.

I'm with Cheryl, it adds a personal touch when needed, puts a face with the name and it kinda says you can rely on me..... oh and the money it pays me to print those faces is nice also..heh heh
