hi, We are planing lease or buy a printer and cutter system which print and contour cut vinyl. any suggestion? techonolgy, brand price and so on? thanks a lot

It depends on what your goal is for volume of output and size of output. We have a Gerber Edge and think it fits real nice into our size shop and the work we do. Not to mention the diversaty of materials it can print on and the diversity of products we can offer. Gerber has a link on this site for an affordable package plus there is a system for sale in the classified section.

Linda, I can't say which is the best but I can certainly tell you to stay away from The Roland PC-60. Nothing but trouble. I also think their support is very poor. Buck

Linda, You should also watch out for claims like "UP TO 3 YEARS" outdoor duability. It means it gaurantees it anytome from 1 second to 3 years I guess. I agree all Roland Color Camms are junk. I have used the Gerber Edge, and I prefer that, but on vehicle graphics, it's a good idea to laminate it or warn the customer, some paint polishes take the print off. Rick

That's a bazillion and one by my count, BOB.
No single system will be the solution to all of your production needs. I would recommend starting with a good strategic plan for your business...where do you want to be in three years? How about in 5 years, or ten? In addition to personal goals, think about your goals for revenue and profit and income. How are you going to get there?
Now, pick the system that is going to give you the fastest RETURN ON INVESTMENT - so that you can achieve your plan to invest in the next piece of capital equipment you will need. Factors that are bound to affect your ROI include things like Capital cost, production / operating costs and marketing costs. Look at factors like the versatility of the systems...how many products can you produce for resale to existing customers? Which machine has the best balance of production cost, speed, and versatility? Which machine can satisfy the greatest needs?
Be sure that one of the stops in your research is the Gerber EDGE. You might also find this information very useful.

Hey Linda, don't forget to check out Summagraphics' systems.. they have a new printer/cutter combo machine (which prints 36" wide) and a 52" wide printer that can be teamed up with a plotter for doing the contour cutting.
